the culmination of over a month's research, 30 pages of print outs and 10 minutes showing it all to the stunned sales associate and manager...

I give you.. GIGANTOR...

it's taking a bit of tie getting it all put together, but did pop GT5: Prologue in... the suede on the driving gloves looked soft enough to touch!

Can't wait to do a movie/game night here now..

What model is that? Looks identical to mine, I have the 5265F. They are sweet ass TV's!

New Addition To My Family. - ANTHONYD - 05-20-2008

Love it.
Same as mine.

Where did you end up getting it in the end?

New Addition To My Family. - darkpuppet - 05-21-2008

It's the 52A550, so it's not a 6-series (as your model number would indicate) ashabib, but it's the newest 5 series available to my knowledge.

5ms panel @ 60Hz, 30,000:1 dynamic contrast (looks like about 2,000:1 true to me)...

It's a very nice TV... and at this size, I can noticeably discern between 720p and 1080p ... and I gotta say.. 1080p sources are amazing.

The saddest part right now is that I'm waiting for my Rogers HD box to arrive, and standard def sources are pretty chunky looking.

Where this TV shines is playing games... true digital sources look amazing on this thing... and if you're a PS3 owner, playing Super Startdust HD, or the Pixel Junk games from the PSN are true examples of sharp looking games.

I would group Gran Tourismo in there as well, but they have some poorly rendered shadows that become too evident at those resolutions...

And then when you hit 720p... I've found new love for Warhawk. though I got my ass handed to me lastnight (taking a month off doesn't help hone one's skills apparently).

I wish cellphone pics could do this thing justice...

That was going to be one of my questions? Can you tell the difference between 720p and 1080p? How much did that set you back?

So is surround next?

New Addition To My Family. - BananaClipper - 05-21-2008

That's a very nice TV. My friend has the exact same in 47'
Lets just say COD4 was never the same after that. Nice stuff.

You can definitely see the difference in resolutions from the 10-15 feet I sit away from the TV...

You can get the TV for just a tick over 2G if you haggle a bit.

There's surround -- it's nothing too spectacular, but it does the job for now. You can see the center channel peaking underneath from behind the tv stand.

Nice toy there ;)

Have you tried any Blu Ray movies yet on it? That I think is the true test, because Rogers, even at their HD best is only a mere shadow of what a properly rendered Blu Ray disk should be.

you definitely notice a difference between BD and DVD. I own I am Legend, Spiderman 3, 300, and superbad on BD... and they look extremely sharp and detailed for film-based movies... and there are a lot fewer compression artifacts.

What is mind boggingly beautiful are the purely digital movies -- or in this case, movie trailer for Wall-e .. now THAT is impressive.
