Ready To Do The Svt Front Brake Conversion ! - mpcv2000 - 02-25-2008

Bah... I should have said "almost" ready.
My car is still in storage but I'm working slowly on cleaning parts , it came out pretty good.

This is when I bought the kit last fall :

I got the parts back from coating beginning of Feb ( 08 ) .
I really like it.

All I'm missing is brake hoses , new pads and the car itself... :P

The rear disk conversion has been done last year , not powder coated but it still looks pretty good even a year after.

good luck with the install!

here's my unsolicited $.02 on the rotor choice... drilled rotors are typically not the best choice for a performance application because they hard track use can create deep cracks that cause part failure (drilling of the rotor causes stress)

i think a cryo treated OE replacement rotor is a very solid (but unsexy) choice for hard track use...

drilled does look cool.. but keep in mind that its a street/show part.. not an actually race part

This is exactly what my car is..
I've been using this type of rotors on my ex 00 Mustang GT ,and currently on my 03 ZX3 and 00 ZX3 and never ever had a problem.
I don't do any trac tho..

another thing to consider... drilled rotors are noisy and wear your pads quicker as well.

However, i doubt you'll ever have any issue with them.

btw.. parts look amazing all cleaned up. Love your posts about all the work you're putting into making your car so damn shiny.

This year all the upgrades will be under the hood.
The car will look complete stock from the outside except the wheels.. :P

Back from the dead! This thread is worth it IMHO....

Question for you mpcv2000: Did you have to disassemble the brake calipers before powder coating or did you just choose to do that? Is it because the seals would burn/melt? I have a set of replacement calipers for my Mustang that I tried painting but I am not happy with teh results. I'd like to get them powder coated like yours above, but I'm not entirely confident that I would put them back together correctly so I don't really want to take them appart. Any adivce for someone trying to duplicate what you've done there?

Ive never seen this post before, you did a great job with the brakes, even a better job keeping your car stock looking, a true sleaper.

Very easy to do and I reused the same seals .
Remove the bleeder , blow some air where the bleeder was and the cylinder will pop right out.
