Motor Mounts - Canadian ST - 04-21-2007

Hay all,
Well I was talking to my friend at work who has a 2004 WRX and he said he put after market engine mounts in his car and he claims it was huge improvement. Is the for real? What is the advantage? is there any adverse effects?

Thanks

Motor Mounts - FocusGuy7476 - 04-22-2007

real improvement for them are in shifting, you get a much firmer shift with the rear engine mount.

basically when you replace your mounts your making your engine move less, just open up your hood and blip the throttle body, the engine will pitch forward and backward. it takes power to move it like that, but not massive amounts of HP. it will feel a little more responsive but will also vibrate a little more in the car.

Do the rear mount first, then if you want to do the other two, do them. From what I've heard the vibration is livable.

Yea the vibration is bearable and your shifts are improved pretty well. One night before I went to the track I installed the rear motor mount and saw repetative gains of .2 seconds in the quarter mile. The week before I ran a 16.7. After the mount was installed I ran 16.5. Needless to say, it was one of the best $150 I spent on my car.

don't believe they all will, I think the rear mount is the same on all Focus models even the Duratecs but i'm 100% on that.

This is a great thread with some good info - I will make this my next install..
Cheers,

Is it easy to install the mounts? I looked around on some web-sites and they say it takes 3 hours? huh. If I could do it my self cool,,,,if not that would be like $200 to have someone put it on.

Motor Mounts - NikiterZTS - 04-23-2007

install is pretty forward....even though the first time it took me 2 hours cuz the fitting was sooo bad

but all u do is
1)jack your car up at the front
2)put it on 2 car stands
3)jack your engine up just a lil (use some wood brick as a flat surface)
4)undo the bracket with the mount
5)swap the mounts

second time it took me only like 30 mins...i was putting my stock back on cuz the vibartions were too bad....and it was taking all the fun away from driving the car....im gonna put it back on when i get xcal or go back to the track

oh yea p.s. at the shop it only cost $25-$30
and they do it less then 10 mins

Huh $30 thats cheap, I'm not liking the vibration thing though. Well at least I know the pros and cons to this now. I think i'm going to try to find an old ZX3 and turn it in to a track car, strip the interior and just have some fun..IE the engine mounts, either that or I found a 60's land rover that needs a bunch of tlc.

Anyways thanks for the info

I did the Dogbone as well...
I like the change, But you will feel more shake in the car.

Motor Mounts - Flofocus - 04-27-2007

I did the rear mount and asked the tuner to raise my idle a bit to get rid of some of the vibrations.

Motor Mounts - Alec Brandon - 04-27-2007

From what I'm hearing this will cause a portion of the engine vibration to be passed through into the vehicle, why on earth would anyone want this???
No thanks, stick with what you have, if it ain't broken and there is no discernable advantage to doing it, don't fix it!

because some of us have over 200 wheel torque...the stock weak ass motor mounts would cause your engine to make contact with your side walls under hard accel  No thanks.

And like I said, with a raised idle, it helps out a lot, mine is at 900rpm.

Motor Mounts - NikiterZTS - 04-28-2007

hey Nate can someone with "their" Xcal do this for me or they'd have to return their car to stock?

Motor Mounts - Flofocus - 04-28-2007

No clue, never used xcal. But any tuner should be able to adjust that.

Motor Mounts - NOS2Go4Me - 04-28-2007

Xcals are VIN-locked to the car that they're first set up on. You can't tune multiple cars with an Xcal / Xcal2 at the same time. You CAN transfer them from car to car if you flash the first car back to stock first.

I was talking to my cousin and when he returned his 04 focus from his lease and got a 06 the dealership told him that his engine mounts were toast. He had a stock Ztec is that normal?

all 3? not possible

Motor Mounts - 02_svt_guy - 04-29-2007

When i shifted from 1st to 2nd HARD it would sound like my motor was rocking into my firewall but after i installed the rear mount it went away and my shiftd r firmer and quicker. the vibrations are not that bad eather. worth every penny,
my 2 cents.
