Imports dominate car sales, domestics take truck sales, analyst says

Richmond Hill, Ontario - Industry analyst Dennis DesRosiers, who reports each month on the top-selling cars and trucks by volume, has released detailed sales information that shows that, overall, import manufacturers hold almost all the top spots in individual car segments, while light-duty trucks are mostly domestic. DesRosiers has expanded the segments to include crossovers, tall wagons and flexible-fuel (E85) vehicles.

The top ten in each segment are listed in order, followed by their percentage of that segment's market share in the Canadian market in calendar year 2006:

Compact cars: Honda Civic (17.4); Mazda3 (11.9); Toyota Corolla (11.0); Chevrolet Cobalt (7.9); Ford Focus (6.9); Pontiac Pursuit/G5 (6.3); Toyota Matrix (5.8); Dodge Caliber (4.8); Volkswagen Jetta (4.8); Saturn Ion (3.2).

Intermediate cars: Toyota Camry (12.1); Chevrolet Impala (9.2); Honda Accord (8.7); Pontiac G6 (8.0); Chevrolet Malibu (7.8); Ford Fusion (7.5); Nissan Altima (6.0); Hyundai Sonata (5.4); Buick Allure (4.8); Chrysler Sebring Sedan (4.4).

It's good to see that Ford has a decent amount of #1's, and that GM and D-C also have a lot of vehicles in the top 5 and 10 as well...

And that the MUSTANG has the sportscar segment on total lockdown! lol!
