How Much Power Can You Gain W/o Sc Or Turbo? - Just4Derek - 10-06-2006

Hello folks,

this might be asked before, i am just wondering how much hp can you gain without installing sc or turbo?

The average Focus has a base hp at the wheels of about 105hp.
Without a turbo or SC, you might be able to squeeze out 35+hp with a good tune, camshafts, adjustable cam gears, exhaust, intake.
Those would get you the best gains for the buck.

for basics; full exhaust(header, flex, no cat and ehxaust), intake, TB, UDP kit, tune will put you at about the 130fwhp mark and about 125-135lb/ft.

add in cams and cam gears and a better tune and you will break 150+fwhp and 145lb/ft+.

add 24lb/hr injectors, ported head, a ported 2000 IM and a better tune and you will get into the 160+fwhp and 150+lb/ft range

increase compression by decking the head and you will see about 5-10 to each depending on how much you increase compression.

add in a FR intake manifold and you will see 170+fwhp and 160lb/ft once tuned at about 7200rpm.

only way to make more power from here is with a built bottom end and big cams.
you can pull 200+fwhp and 160-170lb/ft out of the Zetec NA but you will have to twist the engine to 8000rpm to do it.

the money required to do this will be well above a nice turbo kit or SC kit which will make more power.

ultimate NA setup would be a 12:1 compression bottom end, ITBs attached to a Flowed FR head, some big cams and a DTA P8 Pro ECU with 4.55 gears and a 9lbs flywheel.... should sping to 9000rpm and make 250+fwhp and about 180lb/ft

thanks meford4u and zx3tuning, that's very impressive.

zx3tuning, so sad i don't live in vancouver, otherwise i would definitely drop in for a coffee or beer( my bill ^^), probably i would go for the first 3 stages, cuz i am driving an auto-trans zx5 at 100k, do you think it worth the tuning?

You can still go with boost. There is SC kit out there for auto's, I dont know the name though. Im sure mitch (ZX3TUNING) knows which one

Powerworks has an auto kit (supercharger) and with the right calibrations (included with the kit I believe) you'll be just fine for survivability.

Tuning the Auto for any power can be iffy.
a lot of shops wont touch the Auto Focus and mods when it comes to tuning, setting up the right shift points with the right pressures and disengagment points is really tricky unless you have the Ford Calibration numbers and have done a few before.

if you are Auto, i would almost say save up for the Auto PW SC kit, for the money you will have a hard time finding a better option, $3550cnd plus tax shipped to your door will net you about 190-200fwhp and 160lb/ft in your Auto....
