Tires, Again - oldeguy - 08-10-2006

Just registered yesterday. I recently bought a 2000 Focus ZTS. Currently has Goodyear RSA's, stock rims etc. I am looking for a good, but inexpensive, 3 season replacement tire for the stock rims. I commute 100 kms daily, and want a tire that is good in wet weather. I am looking at Falken 512's. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Goodyear Assurance Triple Tread! I've heard great reviews about this tire's design and functionality.

Thanks! My Financial Advisor is concerned about the outlay of $700.00 though.
I had a 95 Escort with Goodyear Aquatreads, a great tire for all seasons.

Welcome ... and I can heartily recommend the Falkens. I've put about 10k on mine and for me it's one of the best tires I've had at any price - an excellent combination IMO of ride, handling and comfort.

Excellent in both dry and wet, very quiet and my installer says it's one of the easier tires to balance (made in Japan, which is a good thing) - and indeed it took hardly any weight at all to balance them.

It may be a bit early for me to make a determination about tread wear, but visually they look like they're wearing well.

Good luck with your selection.

I'll have to vouch for the falkens also....I have the azeznis and theyre just sweet. My father put the 512's on his BMW, he drives about 100Km a day also.

"Feels like a new car" was his exact response when we put them on. B)

Traction T/A si a good tire. I wanted them for mine way back when they first came out... they weren't available 16" so I bought FUZION HRi's they are fairly good as well.. MUCH better than the Pirelli

Welcome to the site

and for tires I have Aurora H107 on my car from a tire discounter in Brampton, they are the best deal out there as I only paid $415 for them, and believem me they are really good on the Standard Focus ZTS 16" rims. If you have 15" Rims I'd recommend the Cooper tires in that range as they feel meaty while your driving and they have great grip in the snow and on ice in the winter, a really good all season tire IMO, again from the same place.

If you need a phone number I can provide you one if your in ontario in the GTA, just call ahead with-in 24 hrs for them to order them.

I have the 512's and they are a good tire for the price. I had them in the snow and they are really REALLY not designed for snow. In any other condition they work well for the cost. Low noise and above average tire wear. I have had mine on for almost 2 years and maybe 50k and they still have tread left ( except the inner edge  )

Tires, Again - oldeguy - 08-12-2006

Thanks to all who replied to my question. I've decided to get the Falken 512's, at $82.00 each. I will let everyone know how they work as a regular tire for us old slow drivers.

Tires, Again - naz - 08-13-2006

if you can get your hands on azenis sport RT215 get those. RT615 should be good also

Tires, Again - Fingers - 08-13-2006

I've got the 512s. I paid $60/each at the local performance store. I already posted a group buy for them but very few people responded positively. If you haven't committed to buying them at $82 each, send me a PM, I'll give you his contact info.

Tires, Again - DRyanC - 08-15-2006

I have the 512's. I paid 72 each for them last year. There great but I don't and wouldn't want to use them as a winter tire. The only thing about the 512s are they have a lot of road noise. I have another car with the 615's and they are sooo good. Not as good as Toyo RA-1's but the 615's are not an R compound. I've driven an STi around mosport with the 615's and they did really well. Much nicer than the bridgestones that they come with. I have a buddy that has the 115's on his 350Z and he really likes them. I've driven it on the street with the 115's but not on the track yet.

Tires, Again - Fingers - 08-15-2006

I thought it was road noise with my 512s too, but i did the wheel bearing this weekend, and it was definitely not the tires. They seem fairly quiet on pavement.

But now that my car is quiet, i'm noticing some new wind noise!

Tires, Again - DRyanC - 08-15-2006

Ya I checked that as well but when I put my snows on they were alot quieter than the 512's. Not un terribly loud just more than the RSA or GSA what ever came on the ZX3

Road Noise? That's cured by the volume control on the sound system, isn't it?
