My co-worker has a 2001 Focus Wagon SE, and is wanting to sell it, certified, for $1,200.00 It has 235,000 kms on it. It is a 5 spd. It needs to increase the appearance, besides a tint and a drop, a better hood and headlights. I am thinking of buying it as a daily driver for one of my kids. Any thoughts?

The only reason I would say no is because of the quality of that year of Focus. I've heard a lot of negative stuff about those years. But besides that, how much are you willing to spend? There might be some other Foci out there for a tad more but with better reliability. Just my 2 cents.

$1200.00 Cert? Sounds good, Zetec or SPI? May need some other work but for the price I don't think you can go wrong. Does it have much rust and was it well maintained?

Opinion - darkpuppet - 08-28-2009

$1,200, certified and with 200k+ on the odometer... hmmm

Obviously, it's lasted long enough to work out the bugs, recalls, and TSBs -- so for $1200, you get a pretty safe car, something pretty reliable (or at least cheap to fix) for your kid.

And bonus for little skippy -- you can fold down the back seats and get a small airmattress back there.

Mine is a 2000.....so, it's all a wash

Opinion - tetra - 08-28-2009

Dunno, just what I heard.. Don't really have experience with those models. But if it's 1200 certified and has no proof of significant rust, go for it!

Sounds like it... :) I'm well over 220,000 km on my sedan, and GapBoyPCS is over 400,000 kms on his 2000. Lets see your 09 get there! :D

I say pick it up for the young lad. Should be a good car!

Opinion - Scorcher000 - 08-28-2009

Deal. Parts are cheap and you already know all about the car and what the car and do.

Welcome to the fold! :D

Oldguy, grab that wagon fast, before somebody else finds it!

A focus is a great first car but a wagon I think you should see if hes ok with being the driver of a shaggin wagon before you go out and buy it.

I'm buying, he's driving, if he wants a car, he gets what I give him

Opinion - tetra - 08-29-2009

How old is he? Man I sure as hell wouldn't be complaining if my Dad offered to give me a car!

I wish my dad had bought me a shaggin' wagon when I was his age.

Friggin' right, sure as hell beats the shoelace express!

Shaggin' wagon FTMFW!

My first car was a '87 chev celebrity wagon, tinted out and drove it like i stole it!

He'll need some tint on a silver wagon and it will look pimp

And tell him to save up and by my LED tails! Before i find a zetec wagon for cheap :D

Opinion - Scorcher000 - 08-29-2009

tones of room both kinds of boom in the back of it. The wagons look great all done up too. Such as Ken's previous auto.

I have a silver 5spd.................

Opinion - torradan - 08-29-2009

Nothing wrong with a wagon for a first car.

My first car was a 4 speed Ford Fairmont Wagon. I didn't complain one bit because it was free :) Never even changed the clutch or anything, just kept on running and running. Frame eventually rotted out at 170,000 miles and it had to go to the junkyard in the sky. :(
