Future Mods And Potential
#1
alrighty, for the past month or so i have been brain storming different ways to speed up the focus for next season and i think i have found what i need to do.

so some of the mods ive been thinking about:

- 4.06 final drive
- light weight flywheel and stage 1 exedy clutch
- torsen T2 differential
- crower stage 1 or 2 cams with appropriate springs and retainers
- under drive pulley
- 75 shot of nitrous (for track only)

with these mods on top of my current mods (check signature) i am hoping to be able to achieve low 14's of the bottle and high 13's on the bottle, now what i want to ask, in your opinion are those times plausible? i have already run 15.1 with I/H/E, dogbone mount, xcal2 and slicks. with these additions, im hoping it will free up enough to break into the 14's and then the possibility of 13's on the bottle.

lets hear some feedback not only on the parts themselves but whats achievable and other possibilities that don't include slap on a stage 2 turbo or v8 RWD conversion lol

Yes but he would need most of those mods with a stage 2 kit anyways. ;)

No, you will not get the times you want with those mods.

well..maybe if you really kick ass at driving.

well nik, if you look at the mods that arent really needed for stage 2, it would consist of 4.06 final drive, UDP and cams. totalling a lot less than 4k lol. since i would be getting diff and clutch/flywheel, it will just go in with their installation. upgrading to the 4.06 final drive tho is what will give me the most kick off the bottle. i would imaging without 4.06 final drive, cams and udp would give me 14.8 and final drive likely about 14.5ish. correct me if im wrong on the gains.

also, i want to stay N/A when driving on the street. nothing better then when ur at the track and people in srt's, mustangs and wrx's come up to you in the staging lanes asking what youve got under the hood. its happened b4 and i usually say its only a focus

high 13's on the bottle is possible 75 shot is pushing it I would say 100 shot for consistant 13's as for low 14's all motor higly unlikely I would say 14.6-8 at best

lol obviously after, but when i went down the track with them, they surprisingly enough only had a couple cars on me. either they are just terrible drivers or their cars arent all theyre talked up to be. plus, who honestly thinks a focus is going to have a snowball chance in hell of comming close to them.

and ya stage 1 turbo is 3149 or so and stage 2 is another 799. plus i would need LSD, Clutch and all the other goodies like a 2.5" exhaust to go with it. boost is also an addiction that my bank cant afford lol

Everything other than the Torsen, and perhaps nitrous is a waste. The cams + install is gonna set you back about $700, the 4.06 final drive will devastate fuel economy. I Have the 4.06, lightweight flywheel and Torsen. I HATE how the car drives, the 4.06 makes the gears way too short and the lightweight flywheel causes tuning issues (at least in zetec).

The UDB is sort of a waste per HP gained what is it like 1hp?

Torsen + Clutch + Stage 2 = Fun times.

s***teh drivers, theres more than a couple car lenghts between a low 15 second and low 14 second car at the track.

they were all between 14.4 and 14.8 when i ran 15.1-15.2 and by the time they got to the end of the track, ya they were only a couple cars sometimes if that ahead of me. all depends on launch, reaction time, etc when its heads up eh.

as for the 4.06 final, fuel mileage is not a primary concern for the car right now. currently its getting better mileage with whats on it then it did from the factory and its not going to be devastating. i am trying to get as much out of it N/A. i no longer want to go turbo route like i stated before so keep it out of the picture, i have bad luck lets put it that way.

the UDP is said to pull out about 5hp aparently, but thats just talk. if i can feel a difference in the car, then its worth buying to me. 5.25 is all my K&N's dyno sheet showed for it and they said a CAI is one of the best mods....

I had the 4.06 in my 05 ST, It will run at 3200rpm at 120kph and the stock St would run at 3000rpm at 120kph. It did make it a little faster but I noticed a bigger differance with intake and exhaust (you already have that..duh) In the end it would help, if you can instal yourself that will save you some money to.

Have you thought about the Cosworth intake from FocusSport? If I was going NA on a Duratec, I'd seriously consider it...

from what i have read from people on FF and FJ, the only reason to go the cosworth route is if im going big boost or high comp.

i was however reading on FJ from F2 that they are in the works for a centrifugal S/C. that would work nicely because i currently have a lot of the supporting mods for it. im going to likely hold off on 4.06 final drive and just this year do UDP, likely cams and dyno it. this year will be my suspension year i guess lol since ive only had the car a year...
