Buying Snow Tires
#1
Hello, I was wondering if the correct size for the tires on my 05 Ford Focus ST is P205 50R16, pretty sure that's the right numbers I wrote from inside my driver door. The reason I'm asking is because I'm having a hell of a time finding places that stock winter tires for this size, they are saying it's an odd size. And Canadian Tire wants $197 a tire for this size which I find expensive. I don't want to buy 15" winter rims and tires because I'm just buying summer rims this summer with new tires so I can use my factory rims for my winter tires.

Well its cheaper to buy 15 inch tiers and rims (either 195/60/15 or 185/65/15) Then it is to get 205/50/16. I thought about getting 205/55/16 ($110) but it might rub if you lower the car. $197 does sound high, try tirerack.com if you want the 205/50/16 for winter tires. I picked up a set of 185/65/15 Nexan winter guards at Walmart for $325. Hope that helps.

why dont you try 195/55/16's they are hard to find i think as well, but a bit cheaper and more selection then the 205-50-16's

as for your speed it will show you going 1.6% slower, so when speedo shows 60mph you are actually doing 60.9mph

I love my 2002 ZX5. I have 16" summers and 13" winters. I think the whole set up of rims and tires cost somewhere around $325.00 brand new from Wal Mart a couple years ago. Good luck on your quest for tires.

BTW 13" rims will not fit your year of Focus. Only 14's as your brakes are bigger than mine.

i think you would save money in the long run by purchasing a set of 15" steelies and 195/60/15 snow tires

Yeah, if you HAVE to have snows, go with 15s as naz suggests.

I live in da boondocks (North Bay, ON to the rest of the world) and I get around just fine in our crazy amount of snowfall with Pirelli P6s in 205/50R16 sizing. We had over a foot the other day of snow and the little ZX5 chewed through it like a dying man at an all-you-can-eat buffet.

because you have an st, your front brakes will not allow you to use 14" steelies, so you would have to go with 15" for sure, but i have a 2007 st and have 205 55 16 and eibach sportlines which is a 2" drop, and i dont rub at, its impossible because of the offset on the factory rims. so if i was you i would get some 205 55 16 because you can get them cheaper than a full set of rims and tires in 15".
