What A Freaking Day :(
#1
Well as some of you might of known I was suppose to come to the poker run but I had to change plans because of me taking the car to the mechanic. Anyways the car needs new stabiliser links, front and back bushings. This will cost somewhere around 350 to repair. So since I couldn’t drive the Niagara I told Kelly (fiancÃe) lets go for a drive up to the place we are getting married next year. This way we can take some pictures and have a better idea of the place. On our way back from Caledon my short shifter broke off while I’m on 5th gear. So pulled to the side of the road right away and tried to realize what had just happened. I didn’t want to stay on the side of the road considering it was dangerous location. I decided to drive the car until we see a empty parking lot. So I take off from the 5th gear. (Never, ever do this) so I rev the s**t out of the engine and slowly drop the clutch, you can smell the clutch burning really bad inside. Anyways we finally get to an empty parking lot and call her sister to get my tools and the original shifter from our house. So about an hour later I’m all done swapping the gear shifter and tried driving the car and it didn’t move at all. The clutch was slipping really badly and it was really slow. So I said damn it. Rev it up high and dropped the clutch (again, never, ever do this). It grabbed for one last time but it broke the plate and really screwed me this time. The car goes to gears without pressing the clutch while the car in on. So I’m assuming the plate is broken or something.

So the finally tally for today, New bushings and links, 350,
Probably new clutch assembly 400 to 700?

What a freaking day. All I could think about was you bastards having fun while I was just stock on the side of the road waiting for CAA to come and get me out.

Well I hope you guys had a better day then I did.

If it is a new clutch I doubt it will be $700, probably much more. I was lucky to do a clutch replace on my old Subaru for $700 and that was nearly 10 years ago.

I wasn't going to suggest it was a cheap one, I was kinda set on the Steeda, wanted to make sure it wasn't one. Never heard of it happening with the B&M though. The cheap eBay ones, yes, but not the B&Ms.

Yeah I've heard of the B&M breaking before several times over on FF.com. I've actually always recommended Steeda or FocusCentral STS's. Man, that completely sucks and sucks bad.

Best of luck with the repairs, costs, etc.

well what pisses me off is the fact its not the cheap one. i freaking paid 180 for the B&M and i wasnt expecting this thing to break. If i would of got something off of Ebay then i could of justifying this but not with B&M. Ahh i dont fraking care anymore. I just want to return this car to normal conditions and maybe get something newer.

Let me be the first to state the obvious. Why would you stop when you know your car is stuck in 5th gear? I would drive it as far as possible then call for help when I hit heavy stop/go traffic. Revving the crap out of your engine and riding the clutch is probably the worst way to get rolling in 5th, it is however the best way to burn up a clutch. Sucks that it happened with a "good" quality shifter though.

Secondly, if you can change a short shifter, you can certainly change front sway bar links. What bushings are worn? If they are sway bar bushings you could also change those. The rears are especially easy. The fronts are not so easy.

Haha, tell me about it. Why the damn did i slow down? well I'm trying to shift down from 5 to 4 then all of a sudden shifter is looser then my freaking ex. So i freaked out and pulled to the side of the road. Not even knowing what had just happened.

As for me changing the pushings and other parts, its not summer anymore and its getting cold :) plus if the front end has to come off i might tak to the mechanic and get some sort of a deal. i dont really want to do anymore work on my car. i just had enough

that sucks for you mo, and I can totally related to this........ because I had issues with lights, and then the over heating system. I know it's not as bad as a clutch but still I feel you pain.

Yeah, that B+M problem was heard of some time ago, and B+M did revise their shifters. Maybe see if they'll give you a break since you bought a pre-fix item?

Normally their stuff is killer, I love B+M shifters.

Why is the $700 hard to believe for a clutch? I had bought a CEnterforce clutch and I think it was like $250-$300 then $50 to get my flywheel machined, and that was me doing it myself.

I don't see Mo doing a clutch swap himself..no offense..so the cost will go up LOTS.

Could have saved you like a grand or more if you would have just gotten the car towed from the side of the road :o

Trying to start the car in 5th...not too good :(
