Battery Recommendations
#1
I think I'm gonna need a new battery. What do you recommend for the focus with a stereo in it? I've heard about the Optims Yellow tops being great for cars with stereos. I've also heard things about the optimas with the grey casing vs. black casing. Could you guys enlighten me?

From the site:

"Remember:
A dark gray case means starting technology, a light gray case means dual purpose (engine start and deep cycle) technology."

while on their website and surfed around a bit and it seems as if yellow is more intense than redtops. I also know that spongebob (that yellow zx3 from focaljet) used a bluetop battery for their setup (I almost bought it off them) Yeah! the marine one!

The dual purpose one would seem best, the marine one sounds to be a true deep cycle and may not have enough CCA come winter.

Thats more than enough CCA, I doubt the one in the car came with much more than 500. An RC of 120 is typical of a mid range wet battery.

A great battery is the Crappy Tire Eliminator and I intend to put them in both cars when the time comes. If they had one for a 1991 Loyale I'm sure they'd have one for a Focus.

The big reason you see these Optima (glass mat) batteries on tuner cars is they save a bit of weight, they probably are not as good as a quality wet battery for stereos and stuff.

I went to Canadian Tire and they Didn't have an eliminator in their computer that fits a focus. Anyone know if you could put an Eliminator Battery in a focus?

Wow I'm truly disappointed, I may need one in a year or so and was planning to go that way. I'm sure there are other good brand name batteries out there.

If you're running any stereo equipment, or any neons etc. I'd recommend an Orbital Extreme Duty, I'm pretty sure it's made by Exide. When I was looking for a battery this summer a buddy of mine who works in a stereo shop recommended it to me over the optima batteries. It is made primarily for vehicle stereos, and has a very quick recovery, thereby putting less strain on your alternator. I haven't had any problems yet and no complaints. I've even heard a story of one guy my buddy knows who ran his battery dead and then waited like ten minutes and his truck fired right up.
I bought a red car, because everyone knows red is the fastest.

I ended picking up a motomaster battery because it was the only one that would fit with my cables being as short as they are. 650 CCA and I think it was $102.XX. It has a 2 year replacement warranty.

It's as least as good as the one in your car, probably better and most likely cheaper that a Ford bought replacement. Walk tall!

I've used both...the red and the blue one..!!!
they are the best, for me...never a problem.
the red top has 1 year on it and the blue ...like less than a year...
I have a big system in the truck that holds the blue..and before it was carrying the red...and Im about to use the red one in the focus, cause the stocker its now showing some issues(first I'll get a new one from the dealer and save it as a spare.!)
but its up to you guys, I like them, the first one i got on the truck lasted for like 2 years,(and got a new one free, cause still under warranty!!!) and thumping the watts out of the stereo as a daily driver..so...its up to you.!
;)
00 DAKOTA R/T.......I just didnt like the torque of the Focus thats all...!!!
