I read an Edlbrock book on water injection a while back. I believe it was published in the 70's, and it dealt with water injection. It was quite an interesting read. I didn't realize until then that injecting water into the combustion chamber could do what it does. Like you said decrease the intake gas tempature, and increase the air density. But that book was quite old and I didn't think it was still in use today. Neat stuff.
