While going through the pictures for the BBQ from last year, I noticed that most of the cars had the insulation from under the hood removed. Is that just for appearances?

I have 2 Focus one has the insolation ( 00 ZX3 ) and the other one ( 03 ZX3 ) doesn't , paint is starting to crack on the 03 and I'm guessing it's caused by the heat , The 00 has over 183K on it and the paint doesn't do like the 03 without the insulator. On the other end it's a lot nicer without the insulation.

I had a 2001 that never had any. My 2007 doesn't have any.
Some did and some don't. I had 104K+ on the old car without heat cracks and I'm sure the SPI made more heat than power! :D Well, moreso than a typical gas engine anyways!
I wonder if the Duratec won't crack the paint because the exhaust is at the rear of the engine bay where the heat-retardant is and air's moving through already.
Maybe if I drove everywhere in reverse it could be a problem :P

I used to paint mine with BBQ paint every time it would mould up.
I got fed up and removed it.
MUCH BETTER LOOKING!

it's one of those things Ford deleted over the years on the focus.
2001 - the little blue ford emblems on the 5 spoke rims was deleted, and they are crome in colour like the rims.
2002 - the hood foam was removed and the air bag ford emblem was increased in size.
2003 - the trunk carpet on the trunk lid was removed, and the headlights went dark gray in colour.
2004 - the rear heating ducts were removed, and the power locks changed to a more quiter noise, and the lighter lost it's light.
