More charges have been laid in an alleged street-racing incident that claimed a Richmond Hill couple last month.
Ruben Rodrigues, 21, of Maple, is charged with two counts each of criminal negligence causing death and dangerous driving causing death in connection to the deaths of Rob and Lisa Manchester.
The couple had been out celebrating their 17th wedding anniversary May 27 when a red Honda travelling 150 km/h in the 80 km/h zone along Yonge Street slammed into them as they were making a left turn, York Region police said.
The accident left their seven-year-old daughter an orphan.
Police allege Rodrigues was the driver of the Honda, and said he turned himself in Monday after being released from hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Shortly after the accident, police charged the driver of the other car.
Marco Gasparro, 18, of Richmond Hill, faces the same charges as Rodrigues.
Both men were released from custody and are to appear in court Monday.
Just one week after this incident, one man was killed and two people were sent to hospital with serious injuries following an alleged street race in Mississauga.
The driver of a Porsche died Saturday after crossing the centre median on Mavis Road and slamming head-on with another car, Peel Region police said.
