Saturday Toronto Star, Recall?
#1
Anybody still have saturday's Tornonto Star "Wheels" section lying around still? I believe they mentioned a Focus recall but can't remember what it was for?

I checked the Transport Canada database but quite frankly there is so many there I can tell what is new or old?

I was right but wrong at the same time.

The article was in the Globe and not the Star. It was not a recall (yet) but a NHTSA (US gov) investigation into 2000 Focus sedans and wagons, faulty rear door latches that can open while driving.

Maybe, but doing my part to keep the GP informed. :P

Considering small children are the usual occupants of rear seats I'll say that my inaccuracy is outweighed by the significance of my findings, as the lawyers would say.

So double :P to you.

FYI article says 17 cases of rear doors opening while underway were being investigated.

could this be a case of 'junior getting bored and deciding to see what that lever does'

sort of like the audis that 'magically' accelerated and people just couldn't admit they pressed the wrong pedal and so an investigation ensured

Presumably people with children would have engaed the switch/lock out that prevents rear doors being opened from the inside?

But that assumes a great deal about the inteligence level of the average person I guess? You know the kind of people that need to be told: "Caution: Coffee can be hot"

Time will tell but I'm inclined to think it is a tech issue as it is limited to model year 2000 only.

ever tried to open the door while even going as slow as 60km/h? Not easy, must be during a corner and/or braking... but likely a spook none the less...

which reminds me of a joke... a Scot coming home from the pub a little twisted, cop pulls him over and says did you realize your wife fell out of the car a few miles back? Scot replies, few, good thing, I though i was just going deaf. B)
