A while back, NOS4Me2go installed a cluster in his car with a tach in it. From what he said it was a simple install as all he had to do was just hook up the tach'd cluster and bolt it back in and bam...he had a tach.
Well this got me thinking. Obviously dispite the focus you got you had a tach signal on the harness for the cluster. I was wondering if it was possible to say tap into this wire and use an aftermarket tach on your car.
I bought a 2 guage pod cluster a pillar dealy, a 2" tach and a 2" volt meter.
Well any thoughts on this idea would be great. Also...if say it will work...which wire on the harness would be the tach sending signal?

I think the difference is this is a digital gauge, one that is reading values from your computer and displaying them. So no an aftermarket tach won't work unless you get a tach driver. (well thats the easy way) I'm sure theres another way to do it thats cheaper but a little more complicated.

ok I will just go the tach driver way. I just figured that you could tap off the signal on the cluster. Thats how my friend did it in his 1993 honda civic.

Isn't there a pin on the ECU that you can tap and use without using a tach driver?

The digital / analog thing might come into play. All SPIs are capable of using any N.A. Focus cluster that has a tachometer... this much I'm sure of now.
Also, according to the guys on FJ, the SPI is the same as the Zetec... pin #48 for the tach signal. I would imagine that's a digital signal coming from that wire, though. Not sure to be perfectly honest.
