New Car - 2004 Mazda Rx8 Gt
#1
...answers to NOS. :D

So... I did a whack of reading up, decided I wasn't waiting till retirement to drive the cars I wanted to... but not at the expense of everyday travel. So, meet the April - November conveyance:

I haven't decided on a name but the sound is enough to keep me occupied for a while. It's on the road with new rear tires going on tomorrow.

More pics as I have time to take them. I got a hell of a deal on it and I would have been a fool to pass it up.

Base stats: 2004 RX8 GT, manual, loaded, 20,000KMs.

It's also a US-spec car with the US-only fairings on the front and sides as well as the no-colour seats and steering wheel. It looks much less "boy racerish" and much more "GT" that way I find.

33" BFG Mud-Terrain KM2s, lots of Rough Country gear - bumper, 2.5" lift, swaybar disconnects, Superwinch 10,000lb winch, Detroit Locker in rear D44 axle, custom exhaust, K+N filtercharger, Superchips-tuned.

Daily driver 2: 2006 Subaru Legacy GT

COBB Stage 1+ package - AccessPort tuner, COBB intake and airbox. Stage 2 coming shortly - COBB 3" AT stainless DP and race cat, custom 3" Magnaflow-based exhaust and Stage 2 COBB tune.

Err... did you check to see if that RX8 is involved in the recall for excessive oil consumption and if the work was done?

'cause if it is and it wasn't, good luck getting Mazda Canada to do anything for you :(

Why boost the fofo when you have a real kick @ss car? You might as well keep the fofo the way it is so you dont void the warrenty...boost the rx8...very nice Adam, I'll trade you my wifes 01 SPI for it? I'll even fill the tank up.

hey good stuff. congrats on the car purchase! i wholehearted support the 'buy a new car' approach to modding :D

Everything seems to check out so far. It should fall under the remaining time of the powertrain warranty. Failing that, I'll deal with it as it comes.

No bonus, no promotion... just good old "2nd car" time. I seem to have a knack at finding deals in the fall.

As for boost, the newly relaunched/promoted law sounded the death knell on that one. I can't consciously boost the FoFo knowing full well that it's a likely recipe for a long and costly court fight.

I didn't buy the RX8 for pure speed... I bought it because it's just badass as it sits.

i'm sure you know this already but you should be really anal about checking the engine oil level in that car.. (i keep a jug of oil in my trunk)

^^ Yup, going to get a couple 1L jugs of 5W20 today. The manual says check the level on every other fill-up. They just did an oil change on it before handing it over to me, too.

Thanks tho man. :)

nice purchase!

as long as the engine recall/recalibration was done, you should be fine. OF course, the problem was mainly with the pussies afraid to rev their engines once in a while...

Congratulations on your new toy. I guess you like red cars. Now, you're going to be stopped more often, because it's a High Performance Vehicle. Me? I would've turbo'd the Focus and drive around quietly until I got to the track

Judging by the CarFax, it was.

I'm going to swing it by the Mazda dealer either Friday or when I get back from Ottawa to check and see.

Nate - no, I'm not racing you for pinks!

Everyone should drive one of these at least once to experience the rotary engine. It's insane. No, the line does not form at my car!

They just came and picked it up to put the new rear treads on it... I should have it back just before or just after lunch.

they are nice little cars, I've driven quite a few of them at work, lol good thing you got the manual version as the Auto takes something like 20 to 50 HP away.

a $94,000 Jaguar Wagon with 120kms on it.
a $224,000 2006 Bently Arnage with 32,000 kms on it.
a Saleen 2005+ Focus ZX3 with 7 LCD's and kick ass stereo, sold for $19,900 at auction, this one was at the Toronto Auto show a year or two ago.

I've also driven a few BMW M3's, an Audi RS, a Restored 1963 Jaguar, a few other classics, and just last week a special edition Nissan Z350 imported from the states, and a RHD Toyota Corolla from the UK with a Diesel Engine.

crap loads of cars come thru adesa, so each week is different there is tonnes of Fords, as the Toronto Adesa deals directly with Ford.
