Synthetic Oil
#21
The benefits of synthetic oil for us Canadians can be felt in winter, especially for those of us who torture our cars by leaving them out in the cold overnight. Synthetic doesn't "thicken up" in cold weather, making cold starts easier. Also, synthetic doesn't breakdown chemically, like regular oil, and will last longer and not harm your engine. However, synthetic still gets dirty, and your oil filter still gets dirty. I change mine every 5,000 kms or so... You can just change the filter, but, your there so why not do the whole job.

i use mobil 1 5w30 in my fofo, at 7.50ter it can get expensive, but i get those big jugs at crappy tire that come with that 1L bottle for free for like 34$ occasionally. just picked one up actually lol. but i use that stuff for everything, literally. the power washer/generator/snow blower are filled with it lol. says 10,000kms on the bottle thats what i change it at. and as far as im concerned, its got to be better than a lot of conventional oils, all mercedes come factory filled with it, so does the vette and F1 cars use it. so its gotta be decent. not to mention saw a thing about it on motortrend tv, won best motor oil.
Little bit of show, little bit of go.

i bought mobil 1 5w 20 so i'll be changing my oil soon.

Has anyone really noticed better fuel economy after using synthetic? It says on the bottle that it improves fuel economy.

Be the change you want to see in this world.

I couldn't say yay or nay because I switched to synth at the same time as flashing my ECU.

i never checked fuel economy..it was way too cheap to run gas back then..
so i cannot say it got better or not..

and driving style changes made huge fuel economy changes..
i used to get 17 mpg city/22mpg highway when i was in san francisco, lots of hills, lots of stops, i had to do wot all the time..

now i m in toronto and i drive real slow(never went above speed limit..now i m getting 22mpg city and 29mpg highway with around 500lbs junk in the trunk..

by the way imo, go with your favourite brand..they may or may not be better than other but there isn't much difference..

Not on my Focus, because it's always had synthetic since I bought it. The Escort I had, I did notice a small improvement. The Buick Regal I had used as much oil as gas...... :( GM

think there would be more improvement in fuel economy by changing your trans axle lube to a synthetic. I did notice a marginal increase in fuel economy when I did switch to RP 5w30 nothing really major.
