Chrysler introduces "lifetime powertrain warranty" in the U.S.
July 27, 2007
Source: Canadiandriver

Auburn Hills, Michigan - Chrysler has announced that it will extend its powertrain warranty in the U.S. from the 3 year/36,000-mile Basic Limited Warranty to a new Lifetime Powertrain Warranty. There was no indication that the new warranty will be extended to Canadian buyers.

The new warranty applies to most new Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles purchased from dealer inventory, and delivered on or after July 26, 2007. The warranty covers the cost of all parts and labour needed to repair covered powertrain components, and is limited to the first registered owner or retail lessee.

To continue the coverage, the owner must have a powertrain inspection performed by an authorized dealer once every five years, at no charge, within 60 days of each five-year anniversary of the warranty start date of the vehicle.

Read the fine print, before signing on the dotted line. Sounds too good to be true. Besides, see any Chrysler products that are any good?

Aside from not enough damping, the 2006 Sebring I drove was alright on the highway. The 2.7L, 200HP had plenty of balls, too.

Yes, like:

-applies to original owner/lessee only
-mandatory (but free) 5 year checkup
-all scheduled maintenance done on time
-SRT and fleet vehicles excluded.

Nonetheless, still a good promotion. What is also up in the air is if Cerebus is going to own Chrysler in 5 years. Easy to make promises that you may not be around to pay for.
TEAM PITA: Don't settle for a wannabe, only accept the real deal.
