Okay, my Mother-in-law, who is 79 years old, is under the impression that she will be able to buy a new smaller car than her Buick Century. I told her I would check things out. She is somewhat fragile, so the three main things she is looking for in a car are:
1) Smaller than a 1999 Buick Century
2) A very comfortable ride, like a Buick Centrury with it's couches for seats
3) Must be a new car
I realize that at her age, she probably will have her licence revoked, or should, but, like I said, I said i would look into it. :rolleyes: Thanks everyone

I second Adam's recommendation. Plush, small, easy to drive, and pretty darn safe. Plus, the end of year incentives are hard to say no to.

I recommend a Konisegg CCX. Nothing says "I'm one hip grandma" like a CCX.

You don't need a license to buy a car ... my mom didn't start driving until she was 72 and didn't give it up until she hit 84 ... and even then it was the family that took her off the road, not the guv'mint.
If you think you might be in line to inherit the car, then a Subie or Mazda should be your recommendation.
Otherwise the Focus might be a good choice, but the Corolla might be better because of its softer seats and suspension, and better resale value.

I think they have Gyros controlled to a nice hydraulic/air suspension. Doesn't get any better than that. :D

for her age, I'd recommend the Toyota Corolla as it's not fast and it's boring to drive, so it would be a good match, if she wants something a little sportier then a Corolla, Focus for sure.
I was the only member on this board with a Yellow Focus Sedan, and a 2002+ Euro Facelift on a sedan.

Oh god, a Corolla. Death by anemic hamsters. If you value her life, don't get her a freakin' Corolla. That's Japanese for Coronary - something I nearly have each time I get one as a rental. Most useless Toyota - EVER.

I'm thinking I might try to steer her towards a Subaru Legacy, it's smaller than the Buick, and maybe a comfortable ride. She is thinking about around $30,000.00 or less. She has Osteoporosis(sic?) so it has to be a softer ride. If it wasn't for the brittle bones, I would recommend the Focus ses without a doubt.

Under or around $30K? then that makes a better line up then,
I recommend the following in this order:
1. Ford Fusion
2. Saturn Aura
3. Ford Taurus (Basic)
4. Pontiac G6
5. Honda Accord
6. Chrysler 300
7. Hyundai Sonata
8. Hyundai Elantra (Avoid the Sport trimed one for the softer ride)
9. Toyota Camry / Camry Hybrid
10. Volvo S40 (Basic)
