so there is Bill C10 which has already passed the House of Commons, having a clause in there saying that the Heritage Minister can pull the funding for any film or television production that has hate propaganda, excess violence, and pornography in it.

I have not heard of this bill. It sounds reasonable, what is your opinion?

That's not censorship. That's the government setting a standard to what our tax dollars will pay for in the tems of grants and subsidies to the Canadian film industry. It doesn't say that you can't make it, it says that we won't pay for it.
I'd hate to think that you'd think it would be ok for your tax dollars to subsidize a porno or hate film...

what's wrong with government subsidized porn? Last time I checked, it only looked like the girl was in pain.
I have no issue with the government limiting money for questionable content... of course, my budding movie career might be on thin ice...

what are the current guidelines and what will the new guidelines be??
I also wonder how much these tax credits amount to in relation to total funding and overall budget. how badly will this hurt the pockets of the studios, distributors, etc.... .
im assuming some people here still catch the credits for tv shows and movies and most of the ones made in canada have a government stamp at the end. i wonder what the total amount of these tax credits are per year.

the thing is none of films would be without subsidizes from the government, and that goes for major and indie film and tv productions. since more and more major films have been shot in Canada and uses Canadian resources and labour. I'm not say subsidize the porn industry, this is not about that industry at all it more along the lines of government letting questionable social issue be created. Would a film like Juno ever be allowed to be made then?
A little government spend goes a long way to help the economy.

The issue isn't whether the film will be allowed to be made but whether tax subsidies will be given to it.
Personally I have no qualms about the Ministry in charge of the grants having a say in where the money gets spent, at least there is some accountability, unlike in Toronto where City Hall granted $12G towards the reno of a strip club :blink:

They offered grants to improve exterior appearance of buildings...PERIOD. This place qualified based on the criteria. Now people are creating a stink and making a moral issue of it because of the type of business. I was more offended when I heard there was an "Alcohol for the Homeless" program.

Regarding the "Alcohol for the homeless" program.
This type of program is part of a "Harm Reduction" strategy practiced by the City of Toronto.
The reasoning being that if the alcohol is given to the homeless and destitute in a measured way, along with information on how to deal with the long term effects including help for those who are addicted and want to stop drinking, that they won't resort to crime or drinking homebrew that can kill them, to get their fix.
I support that before I support renoing a building based on criteria that are more than a little " interesting to say the least :blink:
