They're not entirely small, and need battery changes every now and then, but they're fully contained, and a paint job away from being fairly indescrete (except for the whole flash going off thing)..

Here is my 2 cents :)

1- You mentioned there is card swipe for the doors... well the security company could run the report and they would know who has entered the room at what time.

2- I can bet it is someone that lives in the condo that goes thru your s***, it could even be the security guards. Apparently these days you don't need to speak English or even have background checks done to become a security guard also the pay is not that grate so mind as well find something else to make a living…

3- Security camera's mean jack... i yet have to find a security system that works. Usually “no tape, system is broken, or memory is full and we can not save...”. would be the comments from security guards, after all they are the ones that usually steal s*** in the first place.


so now what do you do.... nothing except maybe rant about the system and unfortunately the security guard knows that as well that’s why they do jack s*** to help you.

Sorry for your loss, but maybe it is time to move to a better place hopefully they have a bit more honest security guards :D

Sorry I had to chime in here. This may have been true in the past but the Ontario government has passed legislation setting out that ALL people employed as security guards as of August 29/08 (IIRC) MUST be licensed and bondable.

Therefore any "sketchy" guards are as good as gone when they don't have their papers unless the security company that hires these paperless pinheads wants to "take it up the pooper" to the tune of $250,000 if they're caught.

That should at least deal with that concern, though it obviously doesn't help DP and his current issue.

Here's the thing, I've pretty much gone through everything, and the only things off the top of my head that are missing are

1 coleman air mattress
1 coleman air pump
1 can of Deep Woods Off (I thought I had 2 anyways)

And maybe some other small crap that could have been just miscounted or something...

So they didn't take anything of particularily large value. Just rifled through my s**t and took the airmattress.

Maybe the security guard was tired?

My guess it was some kids with nothing better to do... I'm sure I'd have caught them if I had put the motion camera in my cage (which I'm thinking of doing).

there are obviously security holes, but I'm pretty sure it's the bureaucracy that gets in the way...

ever notice how when someone at the dealership screws up, you get to rip into the girl at the business office, and even though she has no power or knowledge to make things right, she's gonna take the blame and the brunt regardless.

It's the same with my building... the filing girl handles the brunt of it, but she gets stuck with the same bureaucratic bs that the rest of us do... it's management not talking with the super or coordinating with the security company -- it's a shortcoming of the system.

For everyone one "good" security guard, there are 100s of retards that don't belong in the job for a myriad number of reasons. Being on the callout list for work for a number of things (fire, water, high-heat in datacentre, forced entry, etc.) I get to meet a lot of "security guards". Some are nice, professional and efficient folk... the rest don't deserve the uniform. This goes double for the phalanx of lackeys who were at my grandmother's building - those guys are hardly capable of guarding their own lunch, nevermind the underground garage or the grounds! I called them once when a car tailed me into the underground, secured parking for residents at her condo. They told me that sort of thing happens all the time and the person would leave eventually.

After calling the super and calling the management, we let the board of directors know just who was working, the time and date of the event and that apparently this sort of thing had happened before, repeatedly. Within a few weeks, a new security company was providing their services and they seemed to genuinely give a s***.

Thing is condos are a whole other kettle of fish vs. a rental property. A condo has a Bd. of Directors that has to answer to the unit owners when the S^%T hits the fan like you describe (I am on my condo's board so I know of what I speak)

Rental properties basically run at the whim of the owner/corporation and with a toothless Landlord and Tenant Board whose members aren't willing to make waves or risk getting canned, you have the situation that you do with a neutered administrative tribunal.

As for security companies, they suck, for the most part. It's very easy to get your BST1 or BST2 certification. All security companies want is a body they can stick somewhere because quite often just having a person on location watching is enough of a deterrent.

I DJ at a bar. In the city that the bar is located in, bar's are required to have a security company for their bouncers. We have 7 guys on a Friday night supplied by the security firm. They are all useless, either weigh in at about a 120 pounds soaking wet or 350+ lbs and has to stop halfway up the stairs to catch his breath. After a number of incidents where it took all 7 of them to remove one person while there was about 320people inside and another fight breaking out that I had to come out of the dj booth and break up (ended up in 4 on 1 brawl, I had a sore head from a boot to the side of it and 4 broken knuckles after that one, I'm Scottish, I'm cheap, especially in a situation like that. 2 unconcious, one broken nose and onearm wrapped around his own head screaming in pain as I marched him out the door.). My boss decided to give me a budget and make head of security. I reduced the security guards to 4 and brought in 2 real bouncers. Both are 6'2" ish and around the 250-275 mark and solid. Since they started, we've only had 1 problem. It was solved in about 30 seconds flat. I got on the radio, instead of announcing over the p.a. they've both got earpieces, they were there and had the guy in an arm lock and out the door in seconds, 1 in control of him, 1 watching the crowd for threats as well as me watching from the dj booth. Other than that, no problems because people know that they're serious.

Bottom line, security guards are 95% useless.

Some of my buddies are bouncers. They're great guys. Security guards don't necessarily deserve to be bouncers. There's a big difference between flying a desk and radioing for backup when beligerent people show up and escorting a 250+lb drunk guy out a side door when all he wants to do is fight.

Some security Guards are pointless at some positions alot can't do much in scenerio like a big fight there not trained to get involved in that I work security i have for the last 5 years and i am very usefull in alot of situations but im not about to get into a fight with a guy for no reason i like my face were taught to use are words not our fists. security guards in clubs and stuff yaa i think thats dumb it should all be bouncer type guards and now with the new licencing all in house and bouncers need to get licenced and pass a writen and physical test that should weed out the s***y security guards and its gonna get expensive to get a decent one at your location

No disrespect to real security guards who are worth what they earn, that's why i said 95% not totally useless. See, out here, the average security guard is semi retired aged, wears a turbin and can barely speak english. These are the ones i find useless.

In answer to Nik, yeah, I'm a fairly big guy myself, 5'11"(not tall) 270 ish right now, not all fat, just a nice insulating layer that is slowly dissipating, I wear a size 54 suit jacket and 3xl shirts to fit my shoulders, dress shirts are next to impossible to find that fit my neck, 23-1/2", but moreso I know how to handle myself. I grew up in a rough part of town, you either defended yourself, or got your ass kicked by a certain group. I got choked out and robbed of my sweatshirt at 12 yrs old by a bunch 16 & 17 yr olds. Well, I was raised to stand up for yourself, what you believe in and for your friends and family. So, I learned how to defend myself and how to fight. There's a huge difference.

In that particular fight I mentioned, 2 guys were going at it, verbally, I shouted at them to knock it off, got told to f off and then they started swinging, they knocked a girl into the bar and at that point i decided to split them up. As i approached 2 more guys started right next to them.

When, words and restraint weren't enough, and I'd received blows to the body and then the head, well, it was one thing or another. I decided on another, didn't want to get my ass kicked, I somewhat like it just how it is.

PITA side to this story, my hand is still bugging me and I have a feeling it will for a while.

Oh, as a bouncer at a bar frequented by bikers (Satan's Choice at the time), there's several things you learned right away.

1 ) try to talk down a situation first.
2 ) if talking may not work, check for buddy's friends/girlfriends and see if they can get him out of the bar
3 ) go up and chat to the guy -- pat him on the back and see if the jacket is filled with jello or steroids
4 ) have 3 bouncers (2 for the guy, 1 as back up) .. make sure there's 2 more bouncers nearby for crowd control
5 ) Talk the guy towards the door as much as possible, a squirming, 'roid raging biker with steel toed boots is a bitch to restrain...

6 ) if it's at 5 minutes to closing and a stripper wants in without ID, it's to make a drug pick-up -- tell her she can wait to meet her friends outside.

8 ) and this is important, check for a second beer bottle when you go to take a drunk's beer away from him...

and most important -- never assume it's the big guy causing the trouble, chances are it's the little guy who is, and when you have the big guy down, he'll keep kicking at the two of you...

and last, but not least

9 ) US coast guards and military are the biggest douches when drunk in a 'small town' bar.
