Fitness Update - End Of Summer Edition...
#1
So I know a bunch of people had big plans for their fitness programs this year.. just wondering how everyone else did.

I once again took part in a weight-loss challenge with a buddy of mine, and while he lost nearly 70lbs, I only lost about 20 or so..

Unfortunately, I ran into some hiccups with my health that I'm sorting out, and will be looking to set the next goal as soon as I see my doctor for the physical all-clear (tomorrow).

So what's next?

A Half marathon.

I've been challenged by a buddy, and the deal was that I'd do a half marathon (I hate running) if he agreed to do an adventure race later in the year... I never expected he would take me up on that offer.

So we've set a goal of the '09 Mississauga (1/2) Marathon, taking place in early May.

Which means I need to start training now.

So my next step is to pick up some proper running shoes, get the all-clear from my doctor tomorrow and then sign up for some running clinics. I've only ever ran for football and wrestling, so while I'm a decent sprinter (for a fat guy), I'm definitely no distance runner.

this should prove interesting....

Good for you, I know where that marathon is run (frighteningly close to my place actually ;))

Unfortunately I've suffered a couple of setbacks in my training schedule, right now I'm just concerned with gettingmy car back under me and then I can get back into my training routine (For whatever reason going places by cab is exhausting... I think it's the wildly varying qiuality of the cabs and / or drivers )

I'd have to see if they offer a 1/4 marathon, or in my case, a walkathon, with plenty of stops along the way :(

Dead in the water here. I jumped off the bandwagon back in May, partly due to schedule, work, no support anymore.

Couldn't keep it going. Gained the weight back, lost the muscle. Yup I'm dead last.

I've been holding strong at my current weight.. I've been stuck there for the last 2 months.. either gaining or loosing 3 lbs... but always staying in that 3 lbs swing weight.. and I have not changed anything since may-ish.. almost my complete workout is done at work and all done by walking.
I was the only member on this board with a Yellow Focus Sedan, and a 2002+ Euro Facelift on a sedan.

I gained 10lb...20lb off my target, I dropped fat and gained muscle just not enough yet. Still some fat to loose, but continuing on my journey...

I was back at it again just recently with the completion of the workout room/studio here at home (treadmill, weight bench, new pull-up bar, elliptical, new paint/floors, etc) but losing my grandfather Sunday kinda blew a week and a half's progress away. I didn't pig out or nothing, but I racked up 1800 KMs in a week on the road and frankly... I'm burnt.

Last weigh-in was 195 lbs (on Sunday), more muscle definition coming, still a bit of lower belly fat to lose, legs and arms to build and tone more.

Now that things are where they should be, with any luck I'll be about 205-210 by Christmas and hopefully I'll have slagged off the last evident "fat" on my stomach. I'm running now at home on the the tread with a minimum 5% grade, so that's punching my cardio up too. :)

I was training for a fall marathon and was on track until I was running about 25k and had a crappy run. It really set me back mentally andthen a knee twist while loading a difficult horse into a tractor trailer did me in. I have just gotten back out on the road and am very glad I have. I am a bigger guy 6'5" 235lbs so marathon running is probably not best suited for me but running is the best calorie burning activity I can do at my own pace on my own schedule. Gained 10-15 when I stopped running a month or so ago but now that I'm back at it I should be able to get that back off.

I used to hate running when I was in the military but have learned to love it as a good time to be alone with my thoughts. I get antsy when I miss too much time on the road.

I had lost between 20 and 25 lbs during the winter and spring (Back to Back Excersies in Texas and Wainwright, followed by a 5-week career course in Kingston). Since moving to Ottawa, I've put it all back on, or at least most of it, and that's got me upset. I was doing great, marching and running was getting easier all the time, and I could feel that my cholesterol and blood pressure were going back to normal (less fatigue, more energy, fewer headaches).

We are adopting our neighbours dog, a 6-year old Rottweiler/German Shepherd mix named Nikita, and she's going to help a lot...going for walks or runs wit her 2x per day and whatever else we do with her. I am also going to start using my bike on the trails here in Ottawa, as well as the gym at NDHQ on a more regular basis.

I should be able to get back on track, and slim down and bulk up again pretty easy...just gotta find the willpower and have some support behind my efforts.

Best of luck to you Steve, and everyone else wanting to shape up.
