Dug up this:

According to NEN, the new Escort PHEV will use nanotech lithium-ion batteries from A123 Systems (NEN calls them "Super Batteries", which is a terrible name). The batteries are said to last for 10 years/150,000 miles. Nice as that sounds, as with all li-ion hybrid/EV battery announcements, we'll have to wait to see just how realistic these numbers are when the cars are actually released. NEN says that the Escort PHEV will be available for the 2011 model year (fall of 2010).

Apparently Ford is chasing a target of 100 mpg vehicles and this is supposedly a big step in that direction

I showed the pic to my buddy overseas and he said he's already seen them on the road and they look pretty ugly lol but I think he was actually referring to the Mexican Focus because this thing isn't even out yet

the thing is I highly doubt Ford would bring back the Escort name unless they attached it to the current Focus sold here in the north american market, and I've seen that picture before as a teaser image for the MK 3 Focus 2 years ago..

1. The prototype looks AMAZING - especially the front face
2. This kind of design for Ford is a little late coming. It should be out
now....have u seen the new camrys, accords, mazda 6's.

I like the direction and the look and the 100 mpg, but FORD really needs to time their launches better. You can't be a leading innovator in the business if you're always following up another company's look and style the year after.

Be the change you want to see in this world.

The back end looks like a bag of smashed assholes.

Other than that we should see those here around 2025, when they're all played out.

what makes you say that? I bet when they changed the name Escort to Focus there were a lot of dissatisfied fans too because they just got used to the old name, from a marketing perspective it's okay to inter-change names once every decade

"leading innovator" I don't know about that one not the first thing that comes to mind when I year the name "Ford" but at least they're putting in the effort

The reason why Ford dropped the escort name in Europe was because they were going into a new design direction, they had concidered keeping the name orginally, but they went with Focus as part of the stupid "f" naming the american part of the company was going in. The Focus is a Global car up until 2005, and will continue to become that into its 3rd generation.

but again that photo has been out for a while now, almost 2 years now, and if this a reliable website you got the pic post it, because if this is indeed what you say it is how come it's not on the main stream auto websites ?
