It's crazy to have to do that but prudent it would seem? At what km is this happening to everyone? Mind you km doesn't matter as I guess age and number of hot/cold cycles is the real measure?

Makes me glad I had my valve cover gasket replaced this weekend.
Or does it.
Maybe it would have caught fire and me having my heat sheild still on would have gotten rid of my car for good.

Maybe I shouldn't have had it replaced.

The insurance may cover it, but depending on the relation with the insurance they may pay it and then jack your rates up. I think that sort of thing would fall under a single car accident or some crap like that, so say you've gotta pay $500 deductable, your going to save $500(with the assumption that its 1G to repair.....)
Its not worth the hastle with the insurance, save that call for the next time you see smoke....do as puppet said....burn it to the ground!
