The New Ztwsquared Ride
#1
As some of you know, and despite the handle, we no longer have a Focus; my wife and I instead both driving Fusion SELs. Her's is an 09 auto - mine an 08 manual.

First impressions are pretty positive - very solid and quiet and comfortable. Much better performance for a 4-banger than I hoped to expect (it's only 200 lbs heavier than my wagon) ... and decent driving dynamics with plenty of aftermarket mods available to fix whatever is lacking.

Complimenting the complete lack of wind and road noise is a nice little intake growl ... but totally missing is any exhaust sound whatsoever ... easily fixed.

I'm still a bit iffy about the colour, but overall a decently handsome ride IMO - the only additions so far are tint and hidden hitch ... so here it is ... and let the modding begin.

Great ride.
Ken do they have V6 FWD only for Fusions? My father likes these cars and so do I. But he just doesn't see or use AWD as some of us would in daily driving.

He definitly does not want another 4 banger thats for sure.

Ahh you got a stickshift... nice!

Nik - the V6 is available in FWD and AWD configs. I drove an AWD V6 Fusion last year and it's probably one of the only cars I would have taken to replace the RX-8. If I have one regret about the Escape, it's that I could have bought a nice AWD V6 Limited/SEL/whatever loaded Fusion that was on the lot at the time.

I decided that I wanted ground clearance over a trunk and more room for Tank, so I got the Escape.

Then again, the ice I crawled over today to reach an unplowed parking area at the waterfront so I could take pictures... the Fusion never would have cleared that :P

Looks great! Congrats!

I hope to be in the market maybe a year after the 2010 Fusion launch... and get a loaded Fusion then.

You'll actually find quite a number of mods for the four banger kicking around, both engine and chassis.

Here are some of the cheaper / easier mods that really "wake the car up"

Steeda Strut Tower Brace - helps reduce front end chassis flex and keep the front wheels planted.

Steeda Resonator delete - gives the car a much healthier sound at WOT and gets rid of the "plastic schnozz" that is the resonator.

Steeda Short Ram Intake & tune - Self explanatory, but make sure that you buy the "Gen 2" 4cyl. intake, first one apparently had some "issues"

There are other mods that require a bit more work that you might want to look into, including:

Steeda chassis X brace - attaches under the car at the front to help eliminate chassis flex.

Steeda sway bars front & rear

Ken, we have to somehow get MBRP interested in exhaust systems for our rides though. I was thinking of sending them an "after" picture once my car is done up to try and get them interested.

Who did the tint? Looks nice...

FSWERKS and FS are doing lots of R&D on these cars, especially the 4cyl. I still think that the 3Dcarbon bodykit is the best looking out there for those cars, and I think they would look great with some SAP rims...

Good Score...

Nice ride Ken. Are you and Daniel starting up a Fusion division of FC.NET? Would you call that colour minty green or baby poop green? LOL, just kidding. But it doesn't give the impression of performance sedan. But with a drop and wheels it would be very sweet looking. You have to start catching up to Daniel and all his Mods.

Nice car though.

looks great. I think Fusion would be a good choice for us as well if we dicide to stay here. Like the 4cyl.

The 3D carbon was my choice but ther are others, such as the Razzi kit (A bit "over the top" for my tastes, but it has its fans nonetheless)

Yeah the V6 isn't getting nearly the engine love like the 4 banger is, but I console myself in the old adage "There's no replacement, for displacement" :D

Looks good buddy I suggest darken the grills and fog brazzels and some black or silver rims with a brushed aluminum lip. To top it off a nice dual exhaust.

In the spring I'm going to try setting up a some what group buy on wheels and rubber. Still have to get flyers.

Thanks for the kind comments ...

Nik – tell your dad to at least give it a test drive before writing off the 2.3 ... in any event, V6 is indeed available FWD.

Yup – definitely prefer the manual tranny – although the new selectshift just might change my mind if done right.

Daniel ... I’ve spoken twice to MBRP and sent them a link to Magnaflow ... he said they would discuss while in Vegas for SEMA – I’ve heard nothing back since. Tint by Ziebart Mississauga.

Drivesthebeast ... unfortunately FocusSport has stopped work on the Fusion ... F2 has a turbo for Fusion 2.3 that looks promising (but not sure who did the tune) and there is a sc in the UK for Duratec 2.3 that uses the Rotrex centrifugal sc - - but seems to be uber expensive.

In any event - - no FI before the warranty expires.

Anthony - - Brampton Flying Club indeed – recently started up where I left off in Air Cadets and taking lessons again.

Kevin ... believe it or not I actually tried buying fusioncanada.net but it’s already owned by some guy in a steel company in Bolton ... there’s a few Fusion boards out there but I haven’t frankly felt any sense of real community in them ... unfortunately fc.net is stuck with me for the time being ... and if Steve want s to branch it out I’m all for it ... and yes, the closest match is indeed baby poop green - - did I mention I was iffy on the colour?

As for mods I’m well on the way ... I’ve got an Eibach Pro-kit, 4 EBC rotors and EBC pads, and a bunch of Steeda chassis stuff waiting for me in Niagara Falls as we speak ... and I’ll be getting my X-cal2 tunes this week.

Still debating the intake and the only body mods I’m contemplating is an M3 style lip spoiler and changing all the chrome to something else.

The stock rims are 17s and quite nice IMO ... but the factory SAP 18s are really nice but really expensive - - so I’ll change those up when the price comes down or I find a good aftermarket alternative.

The fusion is a really nice mid-size sedan, especially the modded ones!
Ford has done a good job with the Fusion and the Edge too.
