And what 1.9 are you referring to? Any deisel can "smoke" most other engines if you how to tweak the fuel

Nope.

The 94 Golf CL was a 2.0.

The 1.9 L is the diesel engines in NA Jetta's & golfs. Nothing tweaked fuel wise, its just common sense that a car with actual torque will be faster off the line.

If you had a 2.0 in your CL, somebody swapped it.

The Candian CL's had the ACC code engine, a 1.8L 8V Counter-flow mono-motronic single point injection system rated at a wopping 90hp. The 2.0L's were the ABA code engine's with an 8V Cross-flow head and a four point motronic system rated at 115hp, came in the other trim levels.

I believe the 1.8 CL motor ceased production in 96 with the intro of OBDII but I could be in error there.

As for the diesels, you've got the pre-97 1.9TD which had less power and less torque then the ABA and then you've got the 97 and up 1.9TDI with the direct injection system that had significantly more torque. The earlier ones where not faster then the ABA in any aspect.

And by the fuel tweaking comment I was refering to the 1.6 and 1.9 TD's where you could easily crank the fuel adjuster on the injection pump, increase the fuel, and spew copious amounts of black smoke. I've seen 1.6TDs in mk2s run a 16 second quarter with only blocking off the wastegate and opening up the fuel ... motor doesn't last long like that, but it gets the job done for a short time.

yeah your right, that big 2.0 lettering must mean 1.8. lol

as for the 1.9l that I am refering to, does have more torque than the 2.0 and 1.8. This is a 2004 vehicle im talking about. It was significantly faster than my golf and little faster than my focus to ~80km/hr when it was NA.

I was refering to the text indicating that's CL's are 1.8 and GL's are 2.0. I stand by what I said, if yours was a 2.0 CL then somone had swapped the motor.
