04 WRX STi Hood scoop
#1
Hello Gang

I came across a 04 WRX STi Hood Scoop and looking to install it in to my sleeper sedan and would like to know some opinions in regards to this, in terms of looks my question to you will be will it be possible, will it look good, sick, insane, too radical, crazy, etc?

Also the other idea behind this hood scoop install besides the looks it is performance related because since I have the JRSC BBK installed on the car and since the JRSC is not after cooled like the Powerworks SC, wondering if the hood scoop will help to decrease temperatures on the blower. I know this has being debated a lot specially on the focus fanatics web site where the only real way to provide with a cooler and denser charge is with the use of an after cooler (and I agree as the ultimate and proven solution), but since this hood scoop can cover and can be installed right on top where the JRSC blower, the air intake pipe, the throttle body, the fuel rail and fuel injectors are, it seems like this hood scoop may help a little bit to bring temperatures down, what you guys thing, yes, no, may be? I mean, several bike engines and the first VW bug (and some early Porsches that used the same type of engine years ago) were air cooled and didn't have any radiators to cool the engine. I think the cooling effects on this possible hood scoop install will be more noticeable in Winter.

Let's see what the crowd has to say

Cheers

I agree, the STI hood scoop is much to large for pup hood. Find one that is shorter and you would be good to go.

I knew this was going to cause a reaction, some how I do agree that the 04 STi hood scoop is kind of big and will delete my sleeper status, I was also leaning to a more discrete scoop from early Subarus but the 04 scoop was the one that got in to my hands without looking for it specifically and have it in my hands now ready for a potential install. If I ended up installing it I will paint it the same colour as of the car since I need to repair and repaint the 2 driver side doors from a fender bender I had with a stop sign weeks ago (some of you saw the car when I was on a meet a while ago)

The reason of why I do lean more for Subaru type of scoops rather than the Roush one or similar like the great majority I have seen is that since the Subaru scoops are horizontal than vertical (If you look the car from the front) I think they will do a "better job on cooling" the blower and the other components mentioned when I opened the thread.

In regards to the Gay look does that mean that the STi guys are Gay ; P?

You got into a fender bender with a stop sign? How does that happen? Did it jump off the curb! LOL

Well seems like this idea wasn't liked by all of you and I think is because the scoop is a bit alienated by the fact that it comes from a Subaru, because it hasn't being tried before and one could only imagine how it will look like without actually seeing one installed. Dodgy Huh

The car is at the repair shop for the door job I mentioned and I will go ahead with the scoop install, I will give it a try not because of the looks but to see if there are any small improvements to cool the blower (The main reason of why I want to try this, if I didn't have the JRSC I would not go for this experiment or any hood scoop install). If I don't like it I can always move away from it and that way I will have a valid excuse to go for a carbon fiber hood Wink

Anyway, I know I will continue to be eaten alive with this never tried before crazy idea but will post some pics when all of this is ready, and if I have the chance I will try to go to Sept 20th meet so I can continue to be eaten alive by you guys in person; I was about to say the Sept 6th meet but that day is Labour day and I know I will not make it that day.

And I apologize for the bad joke I made when I asked that if the STi guys were gay, didn't want to hurt any feelings Undecided

Mr Spinal:

I read your post on focus fanatics in regards to your Roush hood scoop install, it was a nice write up. Since it is a functional scoop how are you dealing with the water? Do you get a lot of it inside the engine bay?

i 2nd roush scoop

or better yet get an evo style carbon hood or some kind of vented carbon hood and paint it body color.

or have you seen the wrc hoods? something like that would keep the hole stealth look.

What is the scoop made of? If it's fibreglass, it would be easy to modify. Cut a wedge out of it and make it abit smaller?

I'm not sure what year focus you have but I have seen a 2000-2004 focus around Brampton that had this done. It's a bit to overpowering. The focus hood angles don't blend well with a big arc going in the opposite direction. A vader hood, ss hood (ss camaro hood style) or cervini's hood would look more fitting.

Seems like there is a Brampton and a Vaughan car with this scoop, this is an update an if you would like to see some pics of this job done and some reviews feel free to go to:

http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showt...p?t=245648

You can either reply to this or the focusfanatics site if you like

Seems like there are no more meets, I guess you TO guys will get to see the car when the meets resume next year
