Don't get me wrong here. I do agree that focus is a little on the slow side. not peppy at all. This is probably the slowest car I owned but then again I didn't buy it for that reason. I gotta admit it is a nice looking car. I like the shape and design. But in terms of making it fast, it badly needs a cosworth motor under the hood.

I thought my Focus was "quick" until I drove my Dad's 02' Thunderbird lol. It thought the Thunderbird was fast until my Dad flipped me the keys to his 1990 Corvette........now I never drive my Focus  .

02' tbird looks really sweet. yeah, speed is relative.
I've driven the latest gen supra turbo, mustang GT, Camaro SS. That's why everything else seems to be slow for me. The funny thing is that I did think they were that fast either. They have decent acceleration. Camaro SS has tons of torque but looks wise I would go for the supra or mustang.

Don't get me wrong either. I'm not saying that the Focus is super fast. I have driven my dad's 02 VW Golf.. and mom's 03 Volvo S60 2.4T.. I think the VW sux.. even though it is a 2.0L engine.. and I think my focus has much more power then the golf.. of cos nothing compares to the S60.. hehehe

So a couple things, the Focus stock is slow, everyone knows this. Sure faster then say a Festiva, but relatively speaking it's slow.
Now on my Focus when I had it, I would hit the speed limiter in the 1/4 mile so I had to do something about it. There is the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) on the tranny and I think it was the middle wire, possibly orange, I hooked up a switch to it which disabled the VSS.
So I could just flip the switch and it would work however this doesn't just eliminate the 178km/h max, the speedo doesn't function at all anymore so you won't know how fast you are going.
For me it worked fine because I only used it at the track and it didn't matter how fast I was going, I was going as fast as I could. :)
On the street, in a Wagon with probably stock suspension..not sure I'd be going 180km/h

I've seen a similar mod, identical really, for the Chev Cavalier. Same principal and execution actually. The SCT is great for autobahn-heads, and that speedo trick is great for track days. :)

You hit 178 km/h in the 1/4? Thats high 12 sec./110 mph territory. Is this right?

I was using slicks that were smaller in radius then the stock tires, so I was actually going 104.5mph but the speedo thought I was going a lot faster because of the smaller slicks. :)

well, I have tired today.. from a 0-100km/h.. I did it at 11s.. tried 2 times..both the same result... guess not too bad.. I think the 05 focus can do even better than that..

I thought the SPI did 0-60 in about 10.5-11 seconds, according to a few car mags. I always thought the ZX3 with no mods was a 9 second car to 60 MPH.

I'm really not sure about that.. but if a ZX3 can do a 9sec.. than 11sec for a wagon is a bit slow..
but I think I slammed too hard on the accelerator for the 1st gear.. cos there was a wheel spin before the car actually moved.. maybe that is 1sec.. I'm not sure.. hehehe.. anyway, 11sec with 2 adults and a wagon, guess its a fair timing..

I think the Focus is heavy. I was doing 6.8-7.2 0-60mph with my neon R/T and 7.3-7.5 on my camry v6. neon is only 150hp and camry is 192hp... but camry didn't feel that fast until I started timing it. My Focus is doing 12.3-12.6 for 0-60mph. My 105hp corolla did 8.0-8.5sec. So there's something that's not making sense why focus is above the 10sec range.

Well, I guess u are right.. Focus is heavy.
There was one time when me and my friend (Acura 1.7LE) was suck in snow in a parking lot, it was so easy pushing the Acura out of the deep snow by myself.. but when come to my focus.. 2 of us couldn't even move it.. But one thing I love about my focus is the body.. it is really well built and (touch wood) I'm sure I can survive an accident and still recognise the car if I ever have one..

That definately doesn't make sense????????? The Focus may not be fast but it should be faster than that for sure, by lots in fact. Even if it is an automatic it should be as well.

I wouldnt be suprised if the festiva was faster.
focus' are slow, its hard to find cars that are slower than a focus at the track.

You are trying to use these numbers to compare and you had some blown friend with a STOP WATCH with you?
LOL

That's got to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Do you know how they REALLY do these tests? A little more accurate then someone reflexes and a stop watch!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I am officially no longer reading this dumb thread, can't believe how dumb this is.
