I was just wondering, what kinda gas mileage does a zetec get? I got an SPI and i usually get about 600km on 45L in the summer and 425-500km in the winter. Is it worth just buying a zetec and trading in the SPI?
Is there much more power in a zetec? or should i go out and buy another car altogether? i dont think i can afford the Ford GT yet. lol. help would be greatly appriciated. :)

I got the 2.0L Duratec (2005 ZX5) and I get 500+ since I've bought the car...(last 2 months)..
I know that wasnt your question but, I felt like reppin the duratec
However..in my 2000 and 2003 ZTS's both with the Zetec....I was averaging 450-500 all year round....

if its just a DD you are keeping stock i think your current car is fine
if you are going to modify i think it is worth it to think of another car

is there any other positives and negatives to owning a zetec(or duratec) over an SPI?

The Duratec seems to have more torque than the Zetec but, not a crazy difference..keep in mind..I went from a sedan zetec to a hatchback duratec

Yes, it is the way you drive...I used to drive like you and I only ever got 400-425 max... :P  :P
but, it is also the driving conditions..highway vs. city driving makes a big difference...although..I never once got over 525km on the Zetec..

Dammit Nate you're not helping my finances. You're almost as bad as Gord! :)
The SPI is the consummate gas-saver. I have an auto and I'm high 20s - low 30s around town on a light foot. Even with my mods I'm averaging near-stock highway mileage too.
If you mod smart (intake, exhaust, UDP, chip, TB) you can make decent gains, even with the SPI.
If you're serious about power, consider a N/A buildup. They've got the guts at Escort Focus Performance.
It's something I'm considering :)

That's an interesting concept... I wonder how much design is required, besides the oblig. transmission upgrade.

Swap a duratec instead if your going that route. Probably cheaper.

On my old Zetec it used to be 350-400km's in the city and 450-500km's on the highway depending on how heavy my foot got on the gas pedal.
Laterz :)

SPI's good for 800 Hwy... I s**t you not. Our longest run was 670KMs with 1/8th indicated left in the tank - in other words I had 15L left to go.
They're freaking crazy little rippers. As I've always said, it gets less respect than the D-series does. There's no reason for it other than personal mindsets about the engine and pre-mis[conceptions that no-one would mod it. By denying it a chance in the first place, they cost themselves a whack of money.
I'm going 50% UDP and TB (probably) shortly. Next summer is either a new car or N/A build-up. I'll probably do the latter as opposed to investing all over into a new car.
Oscar, hurry up and get your TB. I want to see how this goes :D
