the 02 sensor for these buckets is 244.10
Add labour and retest...... We're dead close to the cost of the o2 sensor.
Hey MEFORD..... Do you know the name of the crap that will guarantee the pass???
She already has a tank of hight test and fuel injector cleaner in the car. :(

higher octane = slower predisposition to combustion.... if her car normally takes lo-test, this could actually be hurting your results.
the O2 sensor should take 10 minutes to install... removing the old one should be the hardest part of the work.
also, if you can get something with ethanol in it, that'll help as well.
honestly tho.. O2 sensor will be something you'll want to replace sooner or later to ensure the car keeps running.

there's no way it should cost 660 to get your car to pass
that price list is totally off.. i picked up an 02 sensor for the old loyale for 45usd.. and it was a bosch OEM replacement unit.. i also picked up a used catco underbody cat for 30usd and got it welded in for another 30usd
i think the catco by itself would probably get you the pass... just beat on it good on your way to the shop to get the cat nice and hot
but honestly, like i said in the other post i would just beat on the car real good and take it to another shop to see if that will work out before spending money on it
EDIT: ok my bad i checked and it is 103usd per O2 sensor for a 96 tercel.. even though it is 36usd for a 91 loyale.. doh.
good luck with that, hope you don't need those sensors

haha..yeah, we were looking at o2sensorwholesale earlier... It seems many other cars use Bosch sensors... wonder what the diff is between them.. the size is pretty standard, would it be possible to get a Bosch off a different car, and rewire it? COnsidering of course they're the same type of O2 sensor....

pure speculation here, but it seems like the plug attached to the sensor is what is really driving up the cost.. example.. 95 GS-R is like 67 for the universal sensor w/o the plug and its 160 for the OE type sensor with the plug.
so maybe you can save money by just getting a universal sensor and splicing up the old plugs yourself?
good thing its still 38usd each for the OE type sensor for a 91 integra LS :D

the problem could be that the connector has a resistor that calibrates the O2 sensor... which is the case with wideband O2's.

Yeah, the parts for this car are Bently prices!!!
The plug wires are SOLD SEPERATELY! at 24 bux a pop. The boot coils (end of the wires) are also sold in sets of 2 at 100 bux a pop.
Toyotas are exspensive to fix.
The car is currently having the sensor replaced and we will be taking it in for another test this weekend.
I'll keep you all posted.

Don't worry. If there is anyone on this site that can bitch... It's me.
You see, the problem with the whole e-test thing is if the car fails, they look at the chars and see how much crap the car is blowing... If it's blowing out too much hydrocarbon, they look in their little brochure and see what could have "potentially" caused it to fail. Under our reading, there were 20 different "potential" causes... Thus being the plugs, wires and coil boots. Theoretically, they could have told me all 20 things were causing it to fail.
I figure, we may as well get the 02 sensor done, it will need it someday anyway.

So it's really $100+ for 4 OEM plug wires. Wow, I didn't know that you had to bend over and take it that bad from Toyota. That ought to be their new slogan - "OW OW OW".
Mazda - "ZOOM ZOOM"
Toyota - "More lube please!"
I genuinely feel for you. Trade the damn Toyota Crapola for a Focus, at least the parts are cheaper!

Good to hear that you got the car passed with the minimum amount of work.
Still boggles my mind that the CEL on the Toyota wasn't lit, I understood that with OBD-II it should throw a CEL when an O2 sensor dies...

the readings weren't so far off to say that the O2 sensor was bad.

it's not cheaper if you have to replace 4 times as many parts on the Focus as you do on the Corolla.

Jeez... do you come here just to stir s**t? I've seriously had it with you of late.
24 bucks a dam sparkplug wire is highway robbery, no matter who makes the damn car. I'm changing my plug wires at approx. 80,000 KMs because I want to (mostly because I'm not sure the wires that are on there are 8mm wires), not because I have to. And again, for 8mm wires, it's less than 50 for the set.
And what parts have I replaced 4 times? None. What parts under recall? The well-known fuel pump. The rest are replaced by my own personal wants and desires.
Haven't you got more shitty Brit wiring to swear at?
