Outta curiousity, did you have problems with the brakes being biodegradable? My mom had two Acadians, an 82 and an 86 and both had brakes that wore out at 10,000km or if you looked at them funny

Funny you should ask. The reason I got rid of it was the brakes. In fact, I drove straight from the repair shop (brake job) to the Ford dealer where I bought my Tempo. True, the Acadian/Chevette had terrible brakes that never lasted. Even after the last brake job, I could barely stop the car without putting my body weight into the pedal. Thank god when I traded it in, the sales guy that test drove it was Tony Sharpe, a former Olympic sprinter (won bronze in relay with Ben Johnson in 84). He had the leg strength to stop it.

 Good for you. Reminds me of my favourite story with the '82 Acadian. The brakes had started going again in '84 (second time) and my dad offered to do the brakes for my mom (They had been divorced since '82) so my mom goes up to the golf course where he works with my brother and I.

My brother and I get out of the car and my mom proceeds to ease into the shop, my dad keeps making the "come forward" hand motions as she's trying to ease the car in. My dad then gives the stop gesture but apparently forgets the reason that she's there as the front wheel proceeds to roll right on top of his foot! This was the day he wore safety shoes with a hole at the big toe too :D

Learned quite a few new swear words from my dad that day :P

1st car: 1985 Mazda GLC, Rallye Sport Edition with a milled and ported cylinder head, removed EGR and cat, tokico suspension, Mazda 323 GT Rims with Bridgestone Potenza RE910's on them, and about a $7000 JBL stereo in it...payed $200 for the car and over $600 for the tires alone...also had about $6500 invested in replacement parts in the car too, but the body was in awesome shape and it went down the road like a go-kart. Ended up signing the ownership over to a scrap yard tow-truck operator for free after nobody would offer me more than $500, and after over a year of trying to sell it.

2nd car: Still own this one...1978 Mercury Zephyr 2dr Sedan. Have 1000's invested in this car too...it was becoming an interesting car after putting a straight pipe exhaust, mustang GT Turbine wheels with Bridgestone Potenza RE950's on them, mustang steering rack and mustang shocks and springs into it...was a very good handling car for it's age and size...was going to do the 5.0 coversion to it (still have the engine too), but after the straight 6 blew up, I gave up on it. I only paid $1350 for the car, and had another $3000+JBL stereo system in it, on top of several thousand dollars worth of replacement parts...might eventually keep the car as a sleeper resto-rod...

Current car is my 01 ZX3...it's almost been problem free, and I absolutely love the car...I will likely rack up more km's on it when I come home soon, and will likely have 125,000 on it by christmas...lol...

1. 89 Mercury Topaz - Got this from my uncle. I know a tonne of people complain about this car but mine was a tank. In the winter I rammed it into a curb because of black ice on the road and punctured the rad, screwed up the alignment, but the tie rods and everything were quite alrite. Never bothered getting it repaired and drove it till about the 30th time it overheat, then scrapped it when I got the Focus. Learned car audio on this car, as it was my first in which I installed a deck.

2. 85 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbo Diesel - Got this for fun. Figured I could fix it up with my 17 y/o infinite knowledge of cars. :P yeah okay, nice try there buddy. Cleaned it up really good, changed a lot of stuff in the engine, car ran like a dream unless it was really cold outside in which case it wouldn't run at all. Let my dad drive it for a while when he sold his car. Eventually we got him the Solara and I had the Topaz, so it was just too many cars. That coupled with the fact that the underbody had some must rust I had a feeling it was gonna fall apart. Sold it to a dealer friend of mine for $500, 2 weeks later he called me and said the shocks came thru the car (rusted right thru). LOL good thing I sold it when I did.

3. 2000 Focus ZX3. See mods below :P
2000 Black ZX3
Blacked Out Head & Tail lights - APC Clear Turn Signals - 20% Tint All Round - K&N Filter - Cheap ass fogs that are brighter than my headlights - Clarion DXZ745MP - Jensen XA 4100 amp on Mobile Authority 200w 6x8's - Jensen 340w amp on a 12" Rockford Sub, custom enclosure - KYB GR2 Dampers - SHM Springs @ 1.5" - Brembo Cross Drilled Rotors w/ CVR Ceramic Pads - Silver Gauge Bezel - Focus Central 2-Piece Under Drive Pullies - 17 x 7 Rims by Fast Wheels mounted on 215/40/17's - Wings West W-Typ front lip - Coming Soon: Paint, Component Speakers (Spring 06)
