They Made the Escort ZX2 from 1998 - 2001 and sold them here in Canada till mid 2001. I came close to buying a fully loaded 5 speed 2001 model in yellow, in late 2000, but my parents talked me into buying my first Focus sedan insted.
I was the only member on this board with a Yellow Focus Sedan, and a 2002+ Euro Facelift on a sedan.

How long before the Focus becomes the Escort???

Well the redesigned Escort Came out in 1997 in it's sedan form, and Ford Stop selling them in Canada in late 1999, and brought out the Focus, Sedan, Wagon, and ZX3 in late 1999 for the 2000 model line up, to replace the Escort sedan, and wagon.
The Escort ZX2 was for sale in Canada from 1998 - 2001, and up to 2003 in the sates with that newer front end.
I was the only member on this board with a Yellow Focus Sedan, and a 2002+ Euro Facelift on a sedan.
