Listen I know you need those STDs and VDs submitted ASAP however my brian is MIA. Maybe you should RSVP the FBI ASAP to get the 411 on your dilemma.

Anyhoo..quickly summarized... an electronic boost controller needs a spring-actuated wastegate because the electronic boost controler only holds the boost signal from the wastegate. When the electronic boost controller sees the specified amount of boost it's looking for, it allows the signal to go to the wastegate, and the spring opens 'er up.

Okay am I missing something here: :unsure:

If the boost controller detects the amount of boost then open the wastegate....

Why would there be different springs (for different PSI)?

Just from briefly reading I thought the wastegate operated the same as lets say a thermostat. The thermo does not need something to tell it to open it does this on its own.

Got it:

It is important to note that stock systems with a wastegate actuator operated by means of boost pressure do not come equipped with a boost controller. When you have a boost pressure operated actuator, the actuator itself is the mechanism limiting your boost. In essence, the actuator opens your wastegate when boost levels reach the predetermined PSI level. Now in order to get more boost from your turbo system in this sort of set-up, you need to install a boost controller. A boost controller limits the amount of pressure that gets sent to the wastegate actuator. In a sense, it fools it to think that less boost is being created in the system. In turn, it will open the wastegate at higher levels of boost.

Yeah, and you have different springs inside the wastegate because if you are only running 7psi, you don't want a spring in there that's opens up the wastegate at 25psi.

Basically, you have different PSI springs in the wastegate to give you a baseline of the amount of boost you will run. If you will run no less then 7PSI, get a 7PSI spring. LIke if you will run 12PSI on the street and 20PSI on the track, you have a 12PSI spring in the wastegate, then set the boost controller to 20PSI for the track.

You just can't do the reverse.

Man oh man this stuff is interesting.

Next question does the size of the BOV directly have to do with your intended flow? For example the more HP the bigger BOV?

Papa, my setup is an Aerochager mounted under the stock manifold with an adaptor. Adaptor uses a stock manifold flange welded on one end of a 2 1/4" (IIRC) 1/8" wall pipe, which massaged down into a square pipe to fit the AC flange. Nice piece of work really. It's got an EGT bung welded in. Downpipe is 2", since that's what the AC outlet is, couple tight radius bends to miss the A/C compressor, fits up to the stock flexpipe. Both parts coated with VHT silver paint. The welding is easily higher quality than you see at TAG Motorsports.

Intake piping comes from a filter mounted in front of the fenderwell, under the headlight, under the framerail, and across in front of the tranny to the turbo. 2.5" IIRC. Painted with VHT 500* black paint.

Charge piping is 2 1/4" IIRC leaving the compressor, up in front of the exhaust manifold, then across to where the battery was. Back where the airbox was, then across and into the TB with a nice machined adaptor. Also painted black. It would be easy to have somebody redo the charge piping and fit in the Vortec aftercooler setup. I basically designed it for that.

Thanks Rob but what is the deal with the Aerochargers....

I have read about so many people complaining about them, but I really do not know much about them. A little insight would help thanks.

Also before this I ask a question about BOVs....was my statement correct.

..Unless he's including his Pectel and tune with his setup.. which i doupt :P

Whether its aerocharger or jackson racing, you'll need tuning to have it run good... even if you understand compressor maps and VE etc.. it won't be safer :D

there could be some misunderstanding.. you'll still need to buy a flasher for your car.

now wether or not we can use my software still is also debateable.. but it may be possible to just buy the flasher ($500) and use the software I have. Need to check wth SCT first.

This is because the flasher is supposedly VIN locked to my car.

just doublechecking....I don't want you to be surprised by anything that was failed to be mentioned.

You'll most likely have to buy an SCT flasher.
