I own an 03 Focus SE and it is getting close to the end of the warranty period and I am wondering if in the opinion of the people here if the extended warranty is worth the $$$.
Thanks

This is a highly debated topic here... I would be the first to say yes, considering the Focus' track record, an extended warranty is a good idea. I regret not buying one myself.

No, if it was worth it for the customer why would Ford offer it?

It is worth it in some cases but in most cases from what i see it's not worth the extra money.

I have to disagree...I would definitely get the Extended Service Plan from Ford, especially if you are planning to keep your vehicle for an extended time/mileage.
I've personally found parts to start going after 60,000 km (somewhere between 70,000 km to 100,000 km). After that, it's pretty much smooth sailing B)

Might be a good idea...I had a failure of my AC while on a date with a gorgeous Jamaican girl...I was really embarrased. I took the car in and it had 60,059 km's...asked if they would warranty the AC repair, and they said "nope, it's over 60,000, sorry sir..."...ummm yeah...great way to win over a long-term customer...

No, things likely be gone @ 100k km is suspension, otherwise focus hold up pretty good if you do regular maintaince and recall. Speaking from a owner of 200k km focus.

Speaking from personal experience with my last car, I'd have to say an emphatic yes to the extended warranty. That's just been my luck with cars bought at a dealer <_<

Thanks for the input. I was leaning toward purchasing one. I did for my last car a 95 escort, and was glad I did. Now for my next question I see that ford offers different levels "of care" which one would people go for the base, extra or premium. Oh i should mention that I still have about 45000km left on the original power train warranty from when i purchased it.
Thanks

Get the best warranty you can get on a Focus...I had about $700.00 worth of repairs about one month after the regular warranty ran out....Thank God I had the extended warranty...

I have it and it's come back to bite me in the balls more then once, and it's more of a pain if your the 2nd owner of this plan, because if Ford forgets to do the transfer like they did mine, even though I have the paper work that states I have this plan up to 150,000 kms / 2008.

You can't put a price on peace of mind.
It's worth it. Especially on a car so inconsistant.

I'd say yes, but as an 03 owner you have a 5 yr / 100,000KM powertrain. The early Focus owners (2000/01) got jacked and only received a 3 yr / 60,000KM powertrain warranty.
They won't extend it, either. Just a FYI for any early Focus owners.

I've got a 03 ZTS...and brought the 5 year extended warrenty when i brought the car...Just because of the Focus's history...however, im not sure if i'll own the Focus for the full 5 years as the ford dealership has failed to fix simple problems on the Focus since 1 week after i brought the car

You can wait until just before the warranty is up. If the car is a lemon, get it. I've nver had extended.
