Ten Reasons To Wait For Ps3
#21
Good grief.. any other day, and I'd say the PC fanboys were right. But it's just not entirely right today.

If people are unhappy with their TV's resolution, then they can use the VGA cable to plug into a computer monitor.. easy 'nuff

Every PC gamer seems to get stuck on the argument that if they buy $1000 worth of hardware 2 years down the road, they'd have a machine that'd kick the equivalent console.

The console that had the technology 2 years earlier and still costs half the price. consoles aren't perfect, and they DO usually bow down to PCs, but they're also a lot more accessible, have longer lifespans, and offer some very compelling gaming experiences.

Hell, the $200 xbox original is playing the games people are playing on PCs. And resolution isn't the be-all end-all of gaming. Anyone who's played GT4, Ratchet and Clank, or God of War, or Shadow of the Collosus know what I'm talking about... yet the xbox 360, and PS3 will be able to play games at higher resolutions for those who are ready than PC games can readily do.

Everyone has to make up their mind of wether or not consoles are right for them, but there is an inalienable truth that the xbox360 is the most powerful piece of hardware out there, and I doubt anyone on this board owns a computer that would match it's raw performance.

And yes, PC games have come to bore me in recent years. Same old FPS with shinier graphics.. same old RTS with shinier graphics. bleh.

I'll agree withe the final point completely. I find myself living for the latest NFS game, and keeping myself alive with Star Wars this and that and Counter-Strike: Source in the meantime. Most others have lost their lustre in the last 3 years for sure, with Generals being the only C+C title I've enjoyed in the last 2. No other RTS interests me, and I love RTS games, but there's NOTHING RTS-related on either console that inspires me, really. Am I missing anything worth playing?

I've boycotted F.E.A.R. It's worse than Far Cry - a game built around a new graphics technology worse than Doom 3 was (latest OpenGL workstation graphics demo, really).

$500.00 for a xbox360 x 10 = $5000.00

You can probably build a good system for around 1300.00 that would be the same if not better than an xbox360.

Stupid rich kids.

Yeah I can plug my computer into a large screen tv and get probably better resolution and graphics.

Audio, I got 7.1 channel that can go easily into any home theater system.  I think the xbox360 only has 5.1 support?

Yeah consoles suck.

hmm... let me price out a computer that would be the equivalent of the xbox 360...

cheap case with 350W PSU: $70
CPU: Intel Pentium Extreme edition, 3.2Ghz Dual Core with HT (similar, but still short of what the xbox 360 CPU could do).. $1,359
Hdd: 20Gb 2" Hdd: $70
SoundCard (included to make up for intel missing a CPU core: $80
Motherboard: $90
Memmory: 512Mb : $80 - giving this the benefit of the doubt since the MB and Memory couldn't deliver half the total bandwidth of the xbox 360
VideoCards x 2: $740
bluetooth: $44
Controller: $20
DVD drive: $26
OS : $130

oh, I'm sorry, it only costs $2709 for a computer that may be able to keep up with the xbox 360 today.

The xbox 360 doesn't have limited sound capabilities... it has optical out, and no dedicated sound card... one core could more than handle sound encoding with a single thread.

And, no, your computer probably wouldn't perform so well at HD resolutions as you think it would. The xbox360 would be able to anti-alias the sweet bejesus out of an HD signal, your graphics card would choke on it's own entrails.

To say that they're losing a lot of money on each xbox360 is no understatement... and when the PS3 comes out, with nearly a half dozen more cores, blu-ray, etc.. I don't think home computing will have caught up in terms of performance to dollar ratio.

And then you don't have to upgrade your console for 6 years.... it's one of the reasons I own a console.. great games for 6 years... and this is the 1st time the consoles look to kick the ass of home computers for performance in the 1st year of existence as well...

XBOX can kiss my A$$

This system costs more, But I went overboard on the vid cards, 2 7800's in SLI damn that'd be awesome, Woulda went with ATI but couldn't get SLI yet. Also 1Gb Ram, and 2 74gb Raptors in raid-0 haha more than the xbox.

This was all priced at Ncix Without looking for deals. And nutz to a P4, the amd will beat the snot outta that.

Also that case kicks ass looks so much better than any xbox outfit.

PC have there place, and same with consoles. personally i just want to put a game disc into a console, push a button and start play. I don't like installing games, waiting for updates and all those things. as darkpuppet stated before, look at the cost. 500 buck for a console vs 1500 bucks for built PC. not to mention that you have build it, install an OS, drivers then your games to play. i agree from a flexibility point that a PC is way better for editing video, music etc. i don't want to worry about anything crashing an rebuilding a system for a day.

Wrong, I could put together a system right now that will kick the crap out of the 360. I may not have such a system, but a few of my good buddies do. They are into computers and build them as a job, I used to be into building comps etc, but i've moved on to car audio and thats where my money goes.

I was being facetious.

everyone here is a friggin expert on computers.... you may have noticed earlier in the thread when I priced out a 'similar' machine... my challenge is to build an equivalent machine for $500.

have at it.

Does it have to be legally purchased? :P

You cant for 500, in that aspect, the console owns the pc's, but I think that topic has been beaten to death with a 10 pound muskrat so I am not going to dwelve into it lol

The PSP is quite hackable as a true web browser, thanks to the integrated 802.11b.

THe 360 remains a mystery for now, until wireless LAN cards that are compatible with the system begin surfacing. If that's the case, then eventually the boobies argument becomes moot.

actually, the v2.0 firmware has browser software included, so there's no hacking required to get to the 'net.

That, and since Sony can't control what's published to UMD, porn movies are coming out for PSP.
