hey guys, just curious, kinda wanting to get some more information on turbo's and such, kinda giving it a thaught....if you guys can post up some sites with good information, or even give me some of your own, it would be greatly appreciated. And if it makes any difference, i'm kinda eyeing the roush kit that steeda is selling, yes or no? Anything is appreciated guys, thanks

I dont care what anybody says.
The focus needs FI to be truly enjoyed. This car is perfect with 200WHP/TRQ!
with that said, I'd go on Fj and start reading their FI section, read as much as you can and soak up the info.

Hmmm...turbo.
The thing you need to constantly keep in mind is the holy trinity of FI. Air, Fuel, and Tuning.
Whatever kit you decide to go with, make sure you get all three (or can source all three).
Kits that have all three include
Roush kit
powerworks kit
turbo tom's kit
But regardless of what you do, make sure that all three pillars of turboing are well taken care of.
Are they going to be cheap? hell no.. expect to pay upwards of $6,000 to get up and running properly. You may be able to do cheaper yourself buying everything used, but expect to put a LOT more of your own time into the project.
A decent turbo kit should get you just over 200WHP at 9PSI intercooled. I'm sure P-51 has done it, but I wouldn't recommend going over 6PSI non-intercooled (@ ~170 WHP).

Also Brian, I wanted to mention this earlier... you have the autotragic... the PowerWorks kit that is a proven performer with an autotragic might be the way to go. The sudden onslaught of a turbo's torque curve might be too much for the little slushbox that could.
The Ford Racing valvebody upgrade is a good basic jumping-off point for an upgrade, and if you get stupid with the power, an equally stupid upgrade to a Lentech tranny might be in order.

Oh shoot, I didn't know you had an auto tranny..... turbo isn't really the way to go.
the atx isn't good for much better than 160HP.. even guys with torqueless supercharges have troubles keeping their ATX together.
If you're going to do turbo, make sure you put money in the budget to get the tranny built.... which could cost as much as your turbo setup itself.

Your looking at min of 10K to get a properperly setup up turbo and tranny.
I've dumped now close to 6K in my turbo project alone. Thats is building my own kit with help of some really good friends and I'm not done....still have the clutch and quiafe to intsall (another $1200.00 for parts and another $500.00 for intsall)
FI is not cheap, thats fer sure.

yea, i kno...sad to say about the autotrajic :(....but, never said i was gonna get one, just wanted to get a little more knowledge on it than i already have maybe for the future when i have a little more money to spend. But while i think of it, how difficult would it be to change from a ATX to a mtx?

Power works has released a automatic focus SPECIFIC kit. It does 200 whp and a little less torque if recall, there is a thread about it somewhere.

Might wanna mention that it replaces your intake manifold and bolts right on... literally.
Also, for the SPI guys... this is a no-go due to the fact it's a Zetec intake replacement system.
Brian has the Zetec, so he's good to go! :D

I'm sure even the Focussport S/C would hold up well on an automatic car...
Nice thing abou tit is it can be bought in stages, and it will be making as much power as the powerworks once stage 3 is released....if not more.

the FS/VF kit will have a hard time making the same torque curve as the PW kit unless it's making 40fwhp more than the PW kit. also i do not think Randy has a Automatic option for the FS/VF kit yet. peak HP on the stg3 FS/VF might be the same as the PW kit, it will also be about $500 shy and about 20-30lb/ft down on the PW kit. plus a reflash on the PW kit will gain you about 10-20fwhp and similar lb/ft for about $600cnd plus dyno time and you are back to leaving FS/VF kits and all other SCs and many Turbos in the dust.
the PW Automatic kit is actually the only proven automatic option out there. the guys at PW now have well over 20k miles. for those of you who were down at SEMA, you may have seen the guys from PW(and myself ;) ) s**t-kicking the Grey automatic Focus around the test track! this is how PW tests it's parts in the harshest and most demanding ways.
the PW kit will make 200fwhp and 160lb/ft on a completely stock Automatic Focus and the tranny will be fine, even on higher mileage cars.... unless of course the tranny is already on it's way out.
oh and for the record, that Roush kit deal is still up for grabs!

wow.. that's a serious lack of torque.. All the bragging rights of a 200hp car without all the getup and go...
Actually, this kit would rule on an ATX car... and if you ever get your tranny built, I'm sure you could get a tune to wring a bit more torque out of it.
Don't forget to thank Zoom for the helpful tip.
Edit: what's that dyno graph look like under 3,000 RPM? I know it's an auto, but is there no way to get it locked in at under 3k RPM?

I would have thought the vf kit would work well on an auto simply due to the low torque...
When it comes to torque I think the vf kit is pretty weak :(

Wasn't the whole downfall of the automatic's the torque?
you throw 200 ft/lbs of torque on it and simply melt the tranny? I guess that would be why this kit lacks torque in a huge way. But it is still large jump over stock. I think what hte pw guys have there is the VERY limit of what auto's should be pushed to safely without melting anything.
There are even numerous accounts of JRSC killing autos on the jet. Auto's simply can't handle the abuse.
Safest option for zetec auto owners, by far, is this kit right here. Nothing more too it folks.
