The reason it is suggested is that will all the heating up and cooling down of your oil, moisture gets in. It's a by product of the process, unfortunately. If an engine is going to sit for extended periods it is always best to change the oil. I plan on changing it in my car and in my bike this weekend, before I pull the batteries . . . I will then, in spring, change the oil again . . . I know, it may be overkill but I want my vehicles to last . . .
