Sony will display at 1080i, but it won't upsample to 1080i... so if you have a game that renders at 720p, but have a 1080i TV that doesn't accept 720p input (ie, older CRT HDTVs), then it will downsample to the game to 480p.

And the PS2 didn't come with component cables even though it supports up to 1080i...

and an xbox360 with HD DVD costs $700... which is on par with the PS3's price with included blue ray...

but yeah.. they don't have any killer app launch games.. even though Resistance: fall of man is impressive, it's no Gears of War.

but give it time.. I was playing the motorstorm Demo yesterday at Best Buy... it looked pretty darn good.
