Ford Recalls More Than 500,000 Escapes for Engine-Fire Risk

DEARBORN, Michigan ââ¬â The Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 500,000 Escape SUVs from the 2001-2004 model years after getting reports of engine fires linked to corrosion on antilock brake connectors. The recall does not affect the Escape Hybrid.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had been investigating the problem, according to its Web site. There have been no reports of accidents or injuries connected with the recall. However, there have been about 50 reported engine fires connected to the problem.
Ford said the engine-fire risk is linked to missing or improperly installed seals on connectors for the antilock brake system's wiring harness. Dealers will replace faulty connectors and the ABS module if necessary. Ford expects most vehicles will not have any corrosion concern.
What this means to you: If you own an Escape from the 2001-2004 model years, have it checked out at your dealership
