There's really no cut and dried answer to this question: is your friend going to lease or purchase - finance or pay cash - keep it 'till it falls apart or replace every three years? The answer to these questions should factor into the equation.
Too often the emphasis is on purchase cost - really the cost of ownership is what he should be considering and depending on how long he plans on keeping the vehicle the warranty coverage might be important.
And really it should start with a test drive - which one fits him better and feels better to him on the road?
Whatever vehicle is at the top of his list, he's doing himself a disservice by not checking out 3 or 4 other vehicles in the same class - and that means long test drives on all of them, on the roads he will be driving every day.
Bottom line: if he's considering a Tucson he most definitely should take an indepth look at the Escape - it has a good track record and there's a reason it's the top selling vehicle in its class.

He is looking at buying a new vehicle, and I've tried to convince him to buy a Focus, but, he's set on an SUV. He's looking at the Hyundai Tuscon, but, I'm trying to sway him towards the 2008 Escape. Which one is a better overall vehicle, including price.
