You could try using a resister if that's the problem, that will simulate a higher load.. but you'd have to know how much power the bulb is drawing to know what size resister to put in.

The easiest way would be to use the stock bulb and harness, that way you know everything will work the way it's supposed to.. but that depends on how hard it would be to modify your bulb mounting point.
