Mmmmmm, xsi. I'm due for one of those.
Getting kinda board with my point and shoot A700.

I checked out the xsi, good features, just felt like a wimpy camera in the hands and a camera needs to feel good in the hands. Went with the Canon 40D instead.

i got Canon 40D as well, only thing careful is that this DSLR is crop body..
when choosing lens, 50mm will be 80mm on this 40D..
i decided to get Tamron 17mm~50mm for general use, lens is F2.8..
but i am having hard time finding place to buy cheap..

I was just reading about that actually, something like a 1.6 difference with any lens but that's with SLR's in general I'm pretty sure. Only film camera don't have that problem. Works in your favour for telephoto though. I just have the 17-85 and the 50m f1.8 right now. I'm just learning how to use it as I bought it for my wife and she took some photography courses. I picked up the digital field guide for the 40D at Chapters and it teaches you everything about the camera, it's unreal what this camera can do. I'd like to pick myseld up a 100mm macro and a good wide angle lense like a 24-70. I just ordered a Hoya Pro1 Polarizer for my 17-85.
If you want cheaper places to buy from, avoid Henrys lol. They always seem to be overpriced. adorama.com is a site worth checking out, they even have really cheap refurbed stuff. Ebay is always a good spot as well, that's where I just ordered by Polarizer from for $50 new and they usually go for a lot more then that. I bought my 40D new from ebay as well for like $500 cheaper then a store once taxes are factored in.
