Exactly! It's too bad they went to water-cooled engines. The sound of an air-cooled flat-6 is almost unholy when it's wound out. I've been in/driven a 964 and a 993 now and as quick as the new 996/997s are, I'm not sure I'd want one. It's just... not right.
If I ever got a Porsche newer than a 1995, it would be a Cayman or a Boxster with the hardtop (S model, natch). I could always change my mind between now and then ;)
A 964 cruising along at 3000 RPMs and then getting "the hammer dropped" :P is a wonderful, wonderful thing.
