I think my issue was due to a poor quality bearing and a "slight" over torque of the centre nut. Now that I hve them both replaced and torqued within spec everything is nice and quiet. It was very scary having it let go an the Gardiner at 100kmh. When I pulled the wheel I had a hand full of roller bearings.
