depends really...I've been thinking of selling my wrx and picking up a 335i lately, and it would totally be worth it for me as I woudl be saving close to 10k after taxes are paid and all that jazz.
I could take 5 days off work (paid) take a couple of days to shop for what I like then take the the last 3-4 days to make sure RIV has got all the info necessary to get the car into Canada.
It would be a different story if I was losing 5 days pay though.
Saving 10k on a new car is worth it IMO.

Flo, i don;t think its that easy anymore. Lot of places are refusing to sell to canadians. Here is what a member from TDIclub said when he wanted to bring over a Jetta.
"Ok, well I figured I'd better update. I found this useful tool for determining tax/etc. and ruled out Michigan/Detroit (6% non-negotiable/non-refundable):
http://www.carburner.com/index.php?title=Main_Page (their server is horribly unreliable, up/down at random).
Anyhow, I narrowed down 6 viable dealerships, whipped up a quick want/need excel sheet, with dealer info, quoted prices, etc. And I came up just flat out dry.
Of the 6, 3 never returned my calls/voicemails/messages with their reception (2 calls placed to each). of the remaining three:
"Jeremy - Schmitt's Garage Inc." in Bowmanville, NY, gave me an initial price of $24,810 (MSRP on the dot), but when I told him I was from Ontario, he said "oh, well I'll have to give you another price", put me on hold, and came back with $27,000.00 ($2,190.00 over MSRP).
"Jason - Volkswagen of Orchard Park" in Orchard Park, NY simply stated that they were not allowed to sell to Canadians at all under their licensing agreement with VW. They came in at $25,890 (a cool $1,080 over MSRP), even had the exact car I asked for on the lot, but were quite clear that they would be punished by VW corporate for selling to me, unless I could license it in the US first (which I cannot).
" 'JD' - Vincent Volkswagon" in Rochester, NY took the cake though. After getting the basics out of the way, 'JD' learned that I was Canadian when trying to nail down the price (as he asked re: tax rate), briefly muttered something about not selling to Canadians, and actually hung up the phone on me! Now thats salesmanship!
For anyone interested in doing the same thing, hopefully this thread gives you some information to use. I'm reconsidering my choices, and likely picking up a 2010 TDI golf locally. This has served me as good reminder of how welcome Canadian consumers are at various US locations. Obvious VW dealerships are not one of 'em."
