Another Wagon Guy

Just reading the specs, I place it as somewhere a little larger than the Focus, but smaller than the Taurus. Did I read correctly it was available with a six-speed manual transmission? More importantly, was this transmission related to the one found in the Volvo V50/V70 wagons (Estates)?

The Mondeo was originally built on Ford's CDW27 platform, which was sold here for a while as the Contour and Mystique - no wagon though.

Where the Mondeo continued on in second gen (CDW162) and third gen (CDW132) editions in Europe - Ford fans in NA got nothing in that size until the Fusion came in 2006.
