It's not that big a deal ("crazy") in the sense that you could blow your engine.
Without reading to much I think the best kits will only drop temps by say "the tens of degrees" (20, 30, 40...?) it doesn't matter because we live in Canada and know 100% for sure that the intake temperature can range from -40^C to +40^C, thats a HUGE range. I've heard of people at drag races just dumping a bag of ice on top of the TMIC.
When brushing snow off my car I always cram some in the scoop. :lol:
