Practice among aircraft owners storing their piston engines for the winter is to use single grade oil. It's been found to protect better over long periods of storage than multi-grade oil. (Aviation piston engines don't use fully-synthetic oil, so it's not clear whether - in car engines - fully-synthetic multigrade protects better than semi-synthetic or dino single grade during long-term storage).

Other practice followed in aviation circlies is to run engine to full operating temperature once a month.
