You too? I went to my tire guys and the ones I want are on back order (and I have a guy ahead of me in the queue who has been waiting two weeks )

The other options they were offering me weren't that much cheaper for the "Who makes these tires?" brands so I said I'll wait.

A little over a grand (including $80 to store the Michelins)

Getting the car undercoated Monday morning as well, this winter should be the easiest to drive that I've ever had (First ever winter driving was bad years ago, 4 cyl Ford Taurus on A/S... talk about an accident waiting to happen  )

Daniel, you ARE an accident waiting to happen. You just don't know who is going to hit you next. :o

Sorry, I had to. Hope it doesn't bring any bad luck, you have had enough.

Dude, with my luck it'll be Christmas Day and I'll get whacked by a drunk dressed as Santa Claus   (Of course I'll be in a cab that day anyways, I always go to my mom's by cab so I can have a few w/o worrying about the popo)

you know the weird thing is I'd had not even concidered even using winter tires until I was still in Kitchener-Waterloo area 2 years ago and found out how crappy the plow service & drivers from there down there really are. Now that I'm back in the GTA I have not even thought about it because I know where I live snow, and snow storms are not an issue.

lol there are a lot of areas in kitchener where the plows dont come for a day sometimes. good thing im in cambridge where like an hour after it starts snowing you see a plow driving around your neighbourhood. i have yet to own a set of winter tires lol ill likely pick some up for the suburban and the focus will be getting stored a week after its back in my custody :)

I gotta get some new winters tires for the wife, she has been only using 2 up front and all seasons in the rear, it tends to fishtail. The 14" tires are nice and cheap, I think $65 a tire, not bad for piece of mind.

What is the tire size for the focus on a 14" rim for snows ??? My father is thinking of doing this but was told by the dealer that it wouldn't fit.

He's got a '01 sedan ....

Thanks,

14" wheels will only fit a 00-04 Ford Focus non-SVT.
'05 and up have larger front brakes so you will need to use a 15" rim and tire combo.

I will go outside and and check what size the rubber is on my 14" rims and post here when I find out.

what is this snow stuff? 2 days ago it was 19º C and sunny in Vancouver

my snow tires will stay in storage until i see the white stuff falling from the sky. and i have enough practice changing tires (due to frequent auto-x) that it only takes me like 15min for a 4 tire change

I did mine in less than 25 min and I did it in the dark while it was raining. Its not rocket science. But I do use a floor jack and not the PITA Ford throws under the spare. My time includes Lock Nuts and Torquing to spec. But it shouldn't be considered a race.

This is your saftey we are talking about. Do it once and do it right!

I torqued mine to 95ft-lbs. Not really sure what the factory spec is. But I am sure they will be fine. They are steel wheels. Now if I was putting on Custom wheels I would be sure to check and double check what the actual spec is as I wouldn't want to damage anything. But I am sure that your Subbie would be different. I would check your manual.

I'm not complaining, the warmer it is the better the undercoating will penatrate the car's undercarriage :D (while I await my snow tires)

Don't take it home when you get it back. Go park in a mall parking lot or you will end up with undercoating all over your parking spot. Unless they use no-drip. Then you would be safe.

Wow, that's a high price. Did you try shopping around? I got my Goodyear EAGLE UG GW3 for $850 including rims. They are supposed to be the best winter tire according to Consumer Reports and many of the reviews I have read are very favourable. Might want to ask how much your tires cost through Bramalea Tire.
TEAM PITA Don't settle for a wannabe, only accept the real deal.

One day I will rule the world. For now, I have to settle for this place.
